Sticking with the same ball.....?
« on: July 01, 2003, 03:03:16 PM »
I have noticed, lately, that my best ball is the Igniter.  I also have the Fuze Proactive, Inferno and Speed Zone.  The Speed Zone is a Orange pin, meaning Urethane, so I'll use that on the burnt head shot, which works wonderful!.  After bowling at several different house, and also Nationals, the Igniter is the go too ball in my bag.  I hardly use the other two, seeing that they are very moody (Very conditional balls).  When I do hit oil, which hasn't been much, I would think the Proactive ball would be the go to one.  I find that this ball will hook early, and looses all its energy towards the end.?.  I will then go to the Inferno, thinking it'll save it's energy at the ends, but its very touchy.  I don't know if it is me, but I feel that everything is in place, timing is good, and just doing my normal procedure.  This ball will hit hard when I do hit the pocket, but at times, this ball will roll out.  My next step is to go to old faithful.  I do have to slow down, and move a little to the right, but this ball works awesome!  If I tug it, its sets, and if I get it out a little too far, it recovers nicely.  Sounds like a easy house shot,  but at Nationals, this ball was working over the middle of the lane, its just my scores didn't show it.  Spares helped out on that one.

My question would be should I just stick with this ball and maybe getting two or three more with different drill patterns and/or make changes to cover such as scuffing and polishing, or find out why I struggle with the other two?  Im asking all of you who have had this trouble in the past, and tell me what your results were when you made the decision.  Thanks!

I would get 1 more Igniter at most. & drill it a bit differently. Maybe give it a control drilling for the times when you like the length it's giving you, but is getting a little too over/under (which the igniter has a tendancy to be when reved up). The igniters coverstock is pretty specific in whant it's meant to do which is go long & snap. I've found that my igniter did not react well to a change in coverstock.

Since the Fuze igniter seems to match up with your game well, have you thought about trying some of the other balls in the fuze line? That may be a better route to go instead of getting 3 of the same ball. The Raging Red can cover many of the conditions your inferno does, and it's a very close sibling to the igniter with the major difference being that the RR rolls a little earlier & a bit more aggressive for those times you hit more oil.

You don't say which Fuze proactive you have. If it is the detonator I have a different suggestion for you. Your user name & description of line played suggests you've got a good deal of hand, the Fuze eliminator might work better for you on the heavier oil conditions. It has a much lighter load of particles & wont tend to rolll out so much. Then if you ever run into REALLY heavy oil you can just hit it with a bit of scotchbrite & move right a tad.

Just a few suggestions.

I have a few friends that have the same problem with dull particle equipment. The one guy had me meet and and see what I thought the problem was. After watching him he did everything the same, same revs speed etc...
I had him try one thing and that was the clincher. Instead of reving the ball the same way he normally does, I had him roll the ball more. Not really lessen the revs, but actually release the ball a touch weaker. BANG.....it out hooked his other stuff on oil just as it is supposed to.

Try it, see if it works for you. Another thing could be that the particle ball you are using could have absorbed alot of oil and just does not have that hook capability that it did when you first got it. If that is the case, take it to your local proshop and have them clean it really well, then make sure you clean the ball after every use.
