I seen where you said lately this has been happening. Have you lost any weight recently?

From what you describe there could be possibly three things. I am no expert on this but there are others on the site that are and probably will advise.

 1. Span is wrong, too long or too short.
 2. Hole needs more bevel.
 3. Hole too big.

It's an outside chance, but if you use a thumb slug there could be a hairline crack or a miniscule rough edge that isn't even noticeable. But your thumb on release is finding it just fine. A friend of mine tore up her thumb in the same spot one night, and when we checked the thumb hole, there was a crack about 1/16th of an inch from the bevel edge. Our pro shop guy said he had never seen a slug crack horizontally like that before. It's worth checking.

i agree, span is usually too long and you are squeezing the ball a little too much, i had the same problem, i went to a shorter span and quit squeezing the ball. i also use alot of bevel on my thumb hole, this also helps.
