I feel sick, kinda...
« on: July 19, 2006, 02:55:13 PM »
ok so last year I had like 4 300s and an 800 and like a 299.  didn't have any problems scoring at all.  All of a sudden this year, I can't seem to roll honor scores,  I'm still bowling at the same houses, their putting down the same shots.  I'm not trying to complain, I actually think its funny.  so far this year, I've had 2 honor scores.  I had a 298 at the toughest house in town by far.  (only 2 300s rolled there in its 40 year history, and 0 800s) so I got my ring for that.  and tonight I just scored my 2nd honor score of the year,  a 298 in the sport shot league I'm bowling in.  I've bowled at easy houses and everything this year, just like past years.  but for some reason, I just can't seem to score on them, yet when I come accross a tough shot I seem to almost bowl better.  anybody else go through this?  cause I'm just all confused now, lol

If it's any consolation, it happens to us all. Last year I won the average award for the mens league here with a 224.

This summer, I am totally lost.  For the first 6 weeks of summer league, I am averaging just a bit over 194. Now, you tell me what happened?

Same house. Same ball. Supposed to be the same shot, but I CAN'T HIT MY A** WITH BOTH HANDS!

I'm  just going to hang in there and hope fall leagues get here in a hurry.

Yeah i know it happens to us all, I think the thing that gets me, is the fact that the 2 honor scores I do have this year were on EXTREMELY difficult shots... ok the sport shot was fairly simple, don't know the pattern exactly, but the other score is at a house where if you average 210 your capable with bowling with the big boys.  6 lane center, college center in fact, still using an old Wick machine,  and when they don't use it they just soak a towel in oil and oil them that way, (talk about inconsistency from week to week).

imjouster, which house is the tough one?  Which house do you normally bowl in?

On edit, looking for the names of the houses to be more clear =)

Ups and downs are part of the game. What you dont mention is if you averaged any better over the season. I had a couple of seasons where I focused on consistency. It worked, I levelled my lower and higher games out because I was playing safer parts of the lane.

Alot of times, these things happen in streaks. You shoot an honor score and then run with the confidence that the honor score creates. Basically I found that when I focused too much on honor scores, thats when they stopped happening. This season I totally forgot about everything regarding honor scores---and then I shot 16 combined 300s and 800s, after having 1 for the previous 3 years. Just the way it works sometimes.

Saw Freak...
The house that is extremely tough, house is almost never blocked to speak of, and its also the one that towel oils once in a while, is the bowling alley in the Student Union Building of Boise State University here in Idaho (synthetic overlay as of 3 years ago).  The other bowling alley the one that the sport shot is at is Lake Hazel Lanes (old wood lanes),  that alley hasn't had any honor scores shot there this season period if I'm not mistaken, so both houses are both really tough anyway you go about it.

No Thumb...
My average stayed pretty close to the same,  I think like you said, I was a lot more consistent this year, especially in hitting pocket.  at the house I bowl at that puts down a pretty easy shot (Westy's Garden lanes), I wasn't having a problem hitting pocket, in fact there were a few weeks that I didn't miss pocket all day long, problem I had most was getting things to carry out,  Last year I averaged 228 there, this year I finished 218, so definately lower, but not by as much as I would have thought.  In a tournament that goes around the area, goes to like 8 different houses in 8 months, I averaged around 215, whereas last year I averaged 224.  So overall I was lower this year, but like you said, my low games weren't as low, but my high games weren't as high.

Jeremy

On Edit... Saw Freak,  out of curiosity, you were wondering the names of the houses I bowl at.  you live in Idaho or around here somewhere? and do I know you?

Oh quit whinning you shot another 300 tuesday J/K.  Granted it was in practice but that should have given you some confidence back. Like your dad and I said, ever since you started throwing visionary you just haven't bowled the same.  I'n not saying that that Visionary is a bad company or anything, I just really think that Columbia 300 products work better with your game than visionary.  The fact you threw that 300 with the Wired after not throwing it for 4 months kinda helps my point a little bit.

Sigh.....I'm like most bowlers...I don't shoot honor scores. I'm a 185ish bowler with hopes of making it to 190 this winter. I've had a 289 and a couple of 279's, plus one 300 in a no-tap tournement. I've yet to roll that magical 700, except in that same no-tap tournement. My closest is a 699, followed by a 698 and several others in the 690's. So......all I can say is the Great God Brunswick givith, the Great God Brunswick taketh away! It's part of sports in general. If it weren't for the ups and downs it would get boring.

lol Chuck.  I understand where your comming from, I think we've all been there.  As for Cficare... yeah I know what you mean.  I like the way visionary stuff rolls and everything.  but it just doesn't have the carry that I'm used to, maybe its the drilling, maybe its the bowler, maybe its the ball. who really knows.  anyway, my next ball will be a columbia so I guess we'll find out then.  And as for rolling a 300 with the Wired?  I actually haven't used that ball in over a year, so take that!

Wow has it really been a year.  I guess it had.  I did think it was that long. Anyways it's probably a little of all 3 that is your problem.  But I think that the ball is a good part of it.  I think you buying a C300 for you next ball is a very wise decision.  I never really liked any of your visionary equipment.  The Green Gargoyle was ok at first but overtime it just gotten worse in my opinion, and I have never been crazy about the purple one.  Personally I think you should get the thumb on the wild fixed and start using it and the wired more often. But the get my opinion.
