Handicap - The Resolution
« on: August 20, 2009, 01:29:49 PM »
We changed handicap to 90% of 225.  Of those in attendance, it seemed anyone over 200 was willing to go as low as possible.  Anyone under 170 didn't care either way.  The biggest protests came from the guys that were about 185-200.

I posted a thread a few days ago asking opinions.  Handicap was 90% of 230

I was breezing through the first thread you linked to Dan, and seems to me you guys have the same problem my league does.  The handicap limit was a huge issue at the league's end meeting last winter, and after an hour of debating, nothing changed.  Much to my chagrin, everybody wanted the same rules because they didn't like the idea of changing it.  I don't get why, but I guess that's what happens when more than half the league is OVER the average cap and allowed to stay because of being "grandfathered" in.

I personally love the idea of team vs team handicap.  Having individual handicap in a team league almost seems pointless.  But I must say, after bowling in a few scratch leagues, I love them because it's just head to head no holds barred bowling.  I wish there were more scratch leagues around my area, and that I had a higher average so I'm not so afraid of them lol.

Team vs. individual handicap is mathematically equivalent up to round-off error.  With team handicap, you only round off once, while with individual handicap you round off four or five times, depending on the size of the team.  That is, of course, only true if the base for the handicap is higher than any individual's average.

With X% of the difference in team averages, you don't need to set a base, effectively, you are setting it at the highest average on either team.

100% of 300 is the best
