Thumb Rolling
« on: January 21, 2014, 10:37:19 AM »
My son is a 200 hundred average left hander that has his ball rolling over the thumb hole all the way to the pins.  He is very frustrated and needs to know how to fix it!!  Help please!!!

i'd make sure the ball has been properly fit for him and that he's not a full roller or something..

I was nicking the thumb hole until my local pro shop guy tightened up the grip with an insert.

Seems to be coming around the ball more than staying behind it at release.  Last two balls have been thumb rolling.

Possibly he has a high track and the way the ball was laid out relative to his pap could be causing it to roll over the thumb. Take the ball to a reputable pro shop and have the operator check his pap measurements and the layout of the ball and go from there. It could be as simple as redrilling the ball to better fit his pap, or it may be the way he releases the ball which ideally would be fixed with some coaching.

Are you sure it's the thumb and not the finger?

Most people that clip the thumb hole only do it until the ball flares off of it, not all the way down the lane.
