Iam thinking about getting a Thumb slug. The owner of my pro shop thinks I should get some. Do they help?

I went away from slugs for one reason, the fact that on the box of a new ball it says that putting a slug in the ball will void the waranty if it cracks. but it also says the same thing about finger grips. When I went away from finger grips I went away from slugs at the same time (even though I have NEVER had a ball crack that had a slug in it Knock Knock Knock). I've just recently started having some real problems with getting out of the ball consistently. So I'm currently in the process of reverting all of my equipment back to the slug. So far it has really helped me and having a consistent feel between equipment is such an important part of a more advanced player's game. If I were you then I'd go with the thumb slug. I've heard that most proshops are really good about replacing the ball if it cracks because of a slug or grips. Hope you have good luck with this.

imjouster -- I've found that most ball companies (or suppliers) will honor the warranty on balls with slugs (or sleeves) and/or grips as long as the holes are beveled and the pin is at least 1" away from any hole. -- JohnP

I'd go for a slug, especially when you have a ball arsenal and like switcshing balls. The different material textures etc. from ball to ball make it more difficult to adjust the feeling. Best thing I'd recommend is a urethane slug, no vinyl (too soft, not durable). I have all my frequent use balls set up with a slug, expect for my spare ball because I am so familiar with the thumb hole feeling

It is worth those few extra $, and it is easier to adjust for your personal use than normal coverstock material.

Like I said, I've heard that ball companies will honor the waranties, I just haven't had to send one back that has had a slug or grips in it yet, so I couldn't make a definate answer on that. And I always bevel my finger and thumbholes. I'm talking like mega bevel

If you do start using thumb slugs, be sure you bevel not only the hole in the slug, but also put at least a minimal bevel on the hole the slug goes into before the slug is inserted. The same applies to sleeves. -- JohnP
