Easy-strike.com is selling them on their website and ebay for $1.50. I tried 1 and I will be placing an order soon. No problems with the slug.

I think shipping on ebay was cheaper. Check ebay and easy-strike.com

Thanks for the info guys.  I have tried the easy-strike slugs. They are okay, but I think they run just a fraction on the small side.  I guess I should of been more particular on what brand of slugs.  I really like the Turbo or Vise slugs.  But I may give the Easy Strike slugs another try.

I was looking for about 10 slugs in Black or dark colors.

I've got a new Easy-strike and Vise easy at home. I'll measure with my caliber and see if there is any difference. Should be accurate to 1/1000 of an inch.

Ok I'm curious???  I see people buying slugs online.  If a consumer buys slugs online they are not exactly the same thing as what they get in a pro shop.  Ok so you pay the price for the slug but that is not all you get.  A pro shop has to drill the hole twice and measure twice, prep the hole and install the slug , cut it down and that is included in the price of the slug.  They also guarantee the quality of the slug.  It's not really hard or all that time consuming but I will not drill the ball for the same price as a normal hole.  That would be giving my labor away.  The labor charge that's included in the slug price is around $3.50. when you buy a ball from our shop.

hmm..  i buy vise easy urethane thumb slugs all the time, and i haven't noticed any difference in quality.  they are the same as the proshops get, unless vise makes 2 different types (1 for pro shops, and 1 for bowlers).  you'll be fine in getting your slugs online, wether its from ebay, or an online supplier (bowling.com, bowlingindex.com, etc).  if you have a great repore with your pro shop guy, maybe you can order through him.

hope that helps.

There is no difference in quality of the slug.  Vise is Vise and Turbo is Turbo etc.  The difference is the labor charge to install it.  Most pro shops are not going to install slugs and inserts for free if you bring them in.  They may say they are but most likely not.  They are making up for it somewhere.

I measured the Easy-strike and Vise Easy with a caliber. They both read identical size.

A lot depends on where you are in the country.  I charge $12.50 for inserts and slugs installed.  $10.00 on multiple drills.  You do have to drill it twice.  Once for the slug hole and the second for the thumb hole into the slug itself.  I can see not spending the money for the slug but if the pro shop operator is charging that much install a slug in the first place he most likely is making it up somewhere when you bring him one.  I don't think they are going to do it for free.  If they are then there is something seriously wrong.  No one in their right mind would have them sell them a slug and install it when you can save that much money.  On the other hand no pro shop operator is going to give things away and starve either.  Pricing has to be fair for everyone and balance out.

Smash49 is right.  I charge $10 for a slug and $15 for a set of finger grips.  If the customer supplies them, I charge $5 each to install them.  That covers the extra work and my expertise to determine where to drill the pilot holes so the spans come out right after installation.  --  JohnP

A slug costs me $2.40

Most shops charge $15-20 above the cost of drilling the ball for a slug.  The pro shop is already drilling a thumb hole as part of the blank ball drill fee or regular drill fee.  The only extra work is to put in the slug, cut it and drill it.   In my opinion it''s not worth $13-$18 to do just that.

Your not drilling 2 holes as part of extra service, the 1st hole size (1, 1 1/4, 1 3/8) was included in the drilling of the ball or blank ball.

A slug from the pro shop should be no more than $10 installed, but alot of shops today are trying to rape customers on services to make more money.

Yeah, those stinkin pro shop guys are gettin rich off that slug install.  Have you seen my new Corvette??  (I haven't either)

I charged $5 for the slug and $10 for the install.
I charged $5 for the grips and $5 for their install.
More than fair prices in the Houston area.
