Post by: the sleeze on September 10, 2008, 10:23:48 AM
What do you use for up and down thumb? Just got some samples of Magic carpet. Does anyone use? Likes? Dislikes? Am getting samples of Valentino"s tape. Same questions. anyone use cushioned tape that has give and take. Name? Same questions.

I have tried it just about all, magic carpet, thom thumbs, various tapes. I have ended up using regular tape that my brother also uses, I think it is ebonite, that sticks to your thumb. I have a callous on the inside of my thumb, and the tape works really well. You can use two pieces if your thumb has swollen some. A little e z slide if your thumb sweats and the tape gets a little tacky. Works like a charm, is simple, and you can always adjust to get the right fit.

Also use the vise pro box oval shape thumb slugs. Just a little fine tuning and they fit my thumb perfect. Cost 4.99 each and worth every penny. Easieast way to get a consistent thumb fit.

I go to the local hardware store and pick up 3M Velcro tape and use the "soft" side only then use Valentino's frankentape in the front. I've never had such a tight thumb hole before, but strangely, I now also have the cleanest release I've experienced in years with no grabbing of the ball whatsoever.

I second what twister said, since I've used velcro my release has been the best it has ever been.

I've been struggling with my thumb fit for a while now and at one point I used  a sample of Magic Carpet.  That was the best thing I've ever used for a snug fit and still a clean release.  I feel that there's a cheaper alternative though, and besides going more forward with my thumb I think I still need to use a good tape on my thumb or something to keep the ball from slipping with a relaxed grip.  I have the Aqua Hada Tape but for that to work I still need to go a bit more forward with my thumb pitch.  I'm also considering Turbo's Green or Purple tape since they're a bit thicker and possibly more coarse.

Could someone who uses velcro provide a link to what they're purchasing?  I was on Ace Hardware's web site and there's quite a few velcro tapes/strips that I wouldn't know the difference.  And I couldn't even be sure if it'd work without feeling it.  It goes in the back of the thumb hole right?  I'm thinking it could be a possible alternative to Magic Carpet

I just buy the 1" hook and loop velcro from 3M in black (just a preference). I tried magic carpet as well and the only problem i had was my thumb would get real red and sore for the first few sets, which I was told it needs to be broke in. I've never had to worry about that with using the soft side of the velcro.

I order mine from here (http://"http://www.itapestore.com/index.asp?PageAction=Custom&ID=10") because I can just order the loop side only in a variety of sizes in black or white.
