thumb tape
« on: July 16, 2015, 01:59:39 PM »
Just wondering if something has changed with adhesive on the Grey #4 Vise Hada Patch?  I've been having issues with it rolling up , lifting, and coming off.  Been using it for years and never had a problem with it.   I also notice that it doesn't leave a residue on my thumb like it used to.

What tape or pre-cut thumb tape sticks the best?  I don't care about the residue.  I just want it to stick.  I'd rather have it stay on than have to keep pushing it down or change it out 3 times in a night.

Turbo's fitting tape---beige, purple, and mint green---stick very well. I have used all colors with no sticking issues.

Do you use the precut or the roll? Which is the slowest ? Which is closest to the grey Vise Hada patch?

I use Hada and Turbo and Lane Masters thumb tape; recently I prefer the Turbo to the Vise-Grip tape). During the winter, fall and Spring, I hardly ever find any roll-up with any of them. During the summer, I find them all rolling up to one degree or another. Even when the A/C and the house fans are on high, summer humidity seems to seep in and get on your skin.

I've never found any of them to leave residue that I need to remove. The back of my thumb is never sticky after removing any of these brands.

I switched from the grey hada to Lane Masters thumb tape for my fingers and not the thumb. They stick on really good to my skin, and it is easy to clean off!!! With the Hada, I had to work it to just to get my fingers cleaned. And they rolled up just like what your saying.

I buy the rolls and cut the tape; you get more pieces that way. Turbo mint green tape is the slowest release (most coarse) and is probably closest to grey Vise Hada patch.

I started using the roll as more price effective, but, for me, the roll used a different glue that NEVER stuck nearly as well as the pre-cut pieces. So, all the rest of the time ever since, I only use the pre-cut pieces.

Charlest,

Which one of the Turbo tapes are you using?

I use the solid colored, pre-cut one:  purple (thickest, slowest), the blue (thinnest, fastest) and the tan (between the other two, use it the most).
(I think the mint green one is their fattest and slowest; I don't use that one.)

A suggestion - a trick I learned from a really good player in my area is to put robby's skin protector (or whatever liquid patch is available) to prep his skin before putting on a patch tape. I've tried it and it definitely slows down the effect oils and sweat play on the adhesive part of the tape.

Hope this is helpful.

A great tip from an "old timer" was to first clean all the natural oils, and any "dirt" and or soap film from your thumb with an alcohol swab patch (box of 100 about $1.50 at any drug store). I use the tan vise (nicoban) tape (roll) and even in hot humid weather have no problems now.
