Can we afford?
« on: March 02, 2004, 08:59:19 PM »
In RE to another post about how to tell if a pro shop is good or bad...  With the current price of equipment, added to the fact that if you want to win your equipment has to be nearly perfect for you to match up quick, can we really afford to mess around with bad pro shops - or take a chance with one we are unfamiliar with?  Used to be a guy could go to the local K-Mart and get holes punched in a ball and it was possible he could be competitive. With today's technology opening up multiple layouts and endless possibilities on any ball, the guy drilling the ball has a TON of influence on whether you will be successful or not.  Is there an organization that licenses ball drillers who have attended schooling and proven to have extensive knowledge of their trade?

There is a certification organization for proshops. IPBSIA.

Very few are certified. And some the problem is that simply being able to pass the tests does not insure that you have a clue on how to properly measure or drill a ball. But if would show that an owner took interest enough to go through the process and would probably know more than the good bowler who simply decides to open a proshop.

Besides why spend the money to become certified. You wouldn’t be able to charge more. Bowlers are looking for the cheapest solution not the best.
