Seems like a good time...
« on: January 31, 2010, 03:05:18 PM »
Ok guys, judging from the looks of the market right now it looks like as good a time as any to grab a heavy(er) oil ball. I have been hesitant as of late when it comes to new balls as I had a pretty bad experience not too long ago with Ebonite's Evolve (hit great... hooked like plastic) and the ball just not being anything near a oil ball. Right now my arsenal is as follows:
Brunswick Vapor Zone (medium)
Lane 1 Buzzbomb/r (medium/light)
Plastic (light + spare)

I am looking for strong backend reaction in particular. Looking at things I am considering these balls, although there are concerns with all:
-Hammer Jigsaw Corner (hate color, seems like it would be hard to judge rotation)
-Storm Invasion (seems to be a lot of people who don't like it)
-Brunswick c3.5 (I have always had issues getting Brunswick balls to "hit" and there seems to be people who say it hits poorly)
-Roto Mutant Cell (not sure if it is really as strong a hooking ball as I want)

As far as my own specs go I have higher revs (450 RPM area), medium track, approx. 40 degrees axis rotation, higher speed (19 mph).

Open to ideas on balls and suggestions, also drilling ideas. Thanks guys-

I saw someone bowling with a C system 3.5 on Friday, he bowled a 72x with a 300 in the middle. Seemed to hit pretty hard. Maybe the people complaining should try being good...

I also saw someone bowling with a C System 3.5 on Friday shoot 720+, Anglo you wernt at Guildford by any chance, the same player had 299 with it on Sunday. This ball looks really smooth in heavy oil and didnt seem to burn out when things started to dry up a tad.

No, I was watching Darren Cundy bowling with it and not on heavy oil either.

All in all you sound kinda picky..those are 4 of the hottest heavy oil balls out right now.  If you can get past the "color" the jigsaw corner will be clean through the heads and have a nice strong pop on the back.  If you just want a solid color then the columbia full swing would be a good one as well.  The 920A will also fit what you're looking for...also clean through the heads with a strong backend reaction..those are just a few.

lol, definitely picky, like I mentioned the last ball I got was not what I was looking for and left a bad taste in my mouth. My issue with the Jigsaw is that I have like bowling a.d.d and find that if I can see all the rotation on the ball I get wrapped up in that and start worrying about things at bad times (release and that king of thing).

I am bowling against the same bowler in league tonight, on a shorter pattern 41ft not 45ft,it will be interesting to see how he gets on with the 3.5.

Maybe you should change your screen name to little no hook.  I find it funny that a guy who calls himself BIG HOOK, cant get any of the oil balls to hook or is picky about how much the other balls hook.

I thought you were BIG HOOK guy.

lol, no problem getting a ball to hook. If you want... go look for my video's and such. The only ball to date that didn't react the way I wanted it was mentioned in my first post. I'm looking for something that will react above my current equipment as well as react as it is marketed to.

As far as getting oil balls to hook, as a rule of thumb I usually don't buy oil balls, I don't see a lot of "heavy" oil here.

The New Breed Solid is a great hooking solid reactive. I find it has a controllable hook for me. If you check out visionarybowling.com they tell you what the ball was designed for, power with control. Check it out is all I''m saying. They make very good equipment that does what they say it does.

you might want to think about a 900/G bounty or 900/G bounty hunter.. there are 2 good oilers for you too..

I drilled a Mutant Cell and Magic Action the day after Xmas and the MA is stronger for me with more continuation.

If you MUST stay away from Ebonite cause of your experience with the Evolve then I too would suggest the Full Swing.
