Title: Timing
Post by: Frederick on August 21, 2007, 11:11:20 AM
During practice today I was messing around with my timing. I have always been taught to start the ball on my 2nd step (5 step approach) but today I was starting the ball on my 3rd step and it seemed to work really well for me. I got more revs on the ball plus my balance was almost flawless. Anybody start there swing late into the approach?

I'd say generally from my own experience that late timing may feel better and allows a player to get better leverage and revs BUT also causes shorter less free arm swings, more muscling the ball and lower ball speed for the most part at least for me.

I work hard on the 1/1 concept of starting the ball step right foot drop ball into swing right hand <assuming right handed>  Frees up arm swing, creates less muscling and ball speed.

For me I didn't see that much difference in my speed. What I did see was that my rev rate and ball speed matched up much better.
