Medium Oil Ball
« on: January 01, 2009, 02:52:40 AM »
New Year, new equipment..... I am going to purchase the Strom Dimension
and was looking for something to compliment the ball for medium oil
conditions...any thoughts.  I prefer something in the Hammer, Roto families.
Happy New Year, all.

As for the Hammer family, look no further than the Pyscho. The ball is just flat out PERFECT for medium oil! Whether you drill it strong or a little weaker, the cover can be adjusted very easily. Check out my review on both of my Pyschos, and that should help more!

If you like the Hammer stuff, since you had a Cherry Vibe, you could look into the Emerald.  Little longer down the lane with more angularity.  If you want something stronger, look at the Psycho.  In your profile, you list your ball speed but not your PAP or rev rate.  Do you know what these are?

I guess a lot of it depends on what you define as "medium" oil, and how you throw the ball.  Since you don't have anything other than your speed listed, all I can do is give you options.  Since I've had a chance to throw all of these balls (I love the Storm/Rotogrip Open Houses!), here's a rundown of some options from the Storm/Roto current equipment:

Rotogrip Grand Illusion (medium RG polished solid, very smooth, surprisingly good carry), Rotogrip Pluto (longer and just a little weaker than the Grand Illusion, but far from a light oil ball), Storm Hy-Road (solid/pearl hybrid coverstock, polished OOB, very versatile), and for the lighter side of medium, a polished Street Rod Solid is another good option.  If you want something more angular for playing deeper lines, the Rapid Fire (polished solid) or Rapid Fire Pearl or T-Road Pearl are good options.

Or if you can find one (they have been discontinued), the Storm Spit Fire is one my favorite medium oil balls ever.

The Emerald Vibe, how can I forget. The Emerald would also be a good choice, if you have a somewhat higher rev rate! My Emerald goes about 2-3 feet longer, and is definitely more of a flip than my Pyscho. My Pyscho has more of a harder arc off the dry spot. Both are great pieces!

Dan--

I love my T-Road Pearl for the medium.  In your experience how does it compare to the Spit Fire?  Heard nothing but good things about that ball.
