To EVERYONE thats ever whined about L#1
« on: January 23, 2009, 12:24:47 AM »
Map pricing has ended, so prices are now VERY much in line or LOWER than the top of the line stuff from other companies.

Go out and buy one and see for your cheap selves now.

There is a difference....

Ooooooh, Necromancer is a 2-year physics student at VT....

Well if you take the position that Lane#1 is a middle of the road company, I'll take the road of VT as a middle of the road school.  I'm a senior in the College of Business at James Madison University (which our COB has ranked higher than the infamous VT for many years running )

Sorry, I just like to start stuff between college students

But when I first began, about a year ago...I was using 900 Global and Hammer products.  Persisted and practiced for many months.  900 Global Break and Creature gave me the most 10-pins of my life...weakest ball I've EVER thrown.  I switched (partially by the hype) to Lane#1, and my first ball was a 2nd drill Buzzbomb from Doug Sterner.  He got my specs from me, and drilled the BB up (now on 2.5 drill in essence).  Got it, practiced up...rarely leave 10-pins.

I'm 5'6'' and 140 lbs (small guy eh?), throw the ball 17-19 mph, with around 350-400 rpms.  Can you say "play deep?"  I was so happy with the ball, I picked up a Cobalt Pearl, Cobalt Solid, Supernova, and Supernova XP, all used with FANTASTIC results.  I'm working on taking the Supernova out (don't play it much) and getting a BB/R and THS to round out a badass arsenal...and to say I have tons of balls lol.

But back to it.  I havn't been bowling for more than a year, and have by far accomplished a pretty good feat (hold a 192 average after 1 year...to this date actually).  900 Global didn't work for crap, Hammer was about the same.  I switched to Lane#1, and couldn't be more satisfied.

LOL.  I'm a nuclear engineer and MBA student in Pitt with 1 year left.  Close though.  Oh yeah Pitt is ranked in the top 100 schools in the world - not just USA.

Well now that you started stuff, you have learned that I win.

When did they make the switch?  My buddy and I both have Lane #1 Bullets.  These are great balls when the lanes dry up.

quote:
If Lane #1 went back to basic diamond cores (away from the bomb type cores), and Brunswick poured covers, I would consider buying one again.  Until then, I respectfully decline to purchase another Lane #1 ball.  I threw them for years and had good success with the older core/cover combos, but never had success with Lane #1 equipment once they split from Big B.  It's all about matchups, and they just don't match up well to my game anymore.

Hold on...wait.

You went from a "2 yr physics student at VT" to a MBA student at Pitt?

Damn...I need to get on that kind of speed track.  You went up like 5 years of school in like a day.

As a 15 yr. practicing engineer with a Masters Degree in Engineering from Case Western Univ., I will chime in on this subject for the sake of academic argument ...

Dr. Joe's report summarizes that the diamond core has more rotational kinetic energy at the same motional conditions as compared to other simple geometric core shapes of similar size. While I will not contest this yet, I'm surprised that nobody has noticed the corollary to this claim: It will take more energy than other balls at the release to get to this energy point! (Remember that energy is neither created nor destroyed! This is the First Law of Thermodynamics).

So, while the Lane 1 core has 20% more rotational energy at the same motional conditions, it also takes 20% more energy to get it to those the same motional conditions (read: revs, speed).

This may be why the Lane 1 balls seems to work better for high-rev players.

So hold on...

With this assumption, wouldn't that make the ball EXACTLY the same as any other ball?

I could grab any ball, add 20% more effort (speed/revs) and I would thus, get ~20% more energy in the ball...correct?

So I'm lost.

Nothing is free.
Any kinetic energy in the ball must be imparted by the user.

Check profile.  I took 2 years of physics at VT for the LULZ.  Then I decided I might as well do engineering.  I'm 25 and definitely not at VT anymore LOL.

LOL, the stuff isn't that complicated.  Common sense would show that the diamond core is nothing special.  They even gives values for inertia for each shape and axis of rotation on the site.  But like any sales company that can't let their product sell itself, they never tell the entire story.

What MechEng said was correct.

If you match up with the core, I'm sure Lane#1 is a fantastic company (assuming you drill it with good static weights, right?). But if you don't like the core, then you don't like the entire ball line. I don't think that is the best way to go about business, but whatever makes them money.

Also, lmao @ anyone who can say with a straight face that any ball carries (insert random percentage here) more than every other ball on the market.

Just as the case is with any bowling ball [brand], the most important factor is to have the ball drilled and surface adjusted to fit your style and the lane conditions.

(I own a Gforce Nebula and it is deadly when I play down and in.  It somehow carries all the corner pins as long as I hit it.)
