new 300 and 800 rings are ugly
« on: December 30, 2009, 10:50:44 AM »
man the usbc awards are getting cheaper.
no more plaques, 299 or 298 rings and cheaper 300 and 800 rings while dues go up.
the old style 300 and 800 rings can be order from keepsake for 70 while these new ones only cost 40. so usbc is saving money between the 2 styles while getting them cheaper in bulk.

also with 1 300 and 800 ring per lifetime.

what do you guys think?

Having personally bowled a number of honor scores and having both handfuls of rings it doesn't make much difference to me about the rings. However if it was my first honor score this year I would definately be disappointed. The USBC had to do something to control costs.

Since you let your bowling do the talking when you bowl your next USBC honor score donate your award so the next person who cares would be able to get a nicer award. Thank you.

Haven't seen the new rings yet myself. Being league secretary for years now, I feel the awards have become cheaper across the board. Patches made in China were not cheap enough, now we get refrigerator magnets. Everything seems to be swaying to the lower average bowlers, as far as awards go. My league has kicked in well over a grand in sanction dues and have earned about a dollar's worth of awards. At least the plaques and old 298 and 299 rings gave you some bang for your buck. Hard to justify the sanctioning to new bowlers by showing them the refrigerator magnet that they can get if they bowl well. The majority of my league will NEVER see 300 or 800, and if sanctioning is raised next year, I don't think the lure of a magnet costing pennies will justify being sanctioned.

Good idea.  Remember you can only donate the first honor score (of each) of the year.  If you have multiple scores, and donate after the first one, it doesn't count towards donation at all.  So many of those that bowl multiple honor awards like to take the ring first and think they are generously donating all those after.  Doesn't work that way.  Has to be the first 300, 11 in a row, and 800 of the season.

The older rings are MUCH nicer. Everything has gone down since USBC took over.

Very true indeed!!

We don't need prizes, rings and cracker-jack box trinkets!

Unfortunately, due to USBC being rather (cough, cough) unreliable, having only some "notation" somewhere in some USBC database marking each achievement is insufficient.

For each achievement USBC should give the member a certificate (a real one with a watermark, hologram, raised seal, etc). Something the member can put away in a box or maybe frame and put on a wall somewhere.

Open that up for any achievement that would have previously earned the member a trinket, not just the few honor score type achievements.

in my opinion, the Junior Bowlers Tour 300 rings are the best.
