To those who generally go with one company.....
« on: October 16, 2008, 02:28:29 AM »
What are your reasons for only going with one company?  Also, let's just say that company didn't exist, who would you go with?  I only thought about it because my brother throws stuff from many different companies, and asked me why I only throw Track.

I was kinda shocked to realize that I really only throw Track because the first ball I had was Track.  Kinda silly, but yeah, whatever.  I've thrown other brands, but don't now.

If Track didn't exist, I'd likely with throw Brunswick or possibly Ebonite.  I've always been a long time fan of the Zone series, and I like the Fury series as well.  The same could be said about the NV series.

I have not thrown any thing except Ebonite, i think cause it was teh first ball i got new. I know that is stupid, then when i wanted a new ball years later i went with what i new and got another Ebonite. Well that turned into 8 ebonites, not all with me now.

Well since I've gotten back into bowling I've thrown a lot of different equipment from Big B, Columbia, Ebonite, Track, Storm, Roto Grip, Visionary, Morich, Lane 1, and Hammer.  That being said, while I found traits that I liked in almost all of those, I've settled down to just two.  My "primary" would have to be Roto Grip, whom I was hesitant to try at first because overall I felt that I didn't match up well with Storm.  However, all of my Roto Grip equipment just works well together, and gives me a certain level of confidence.  My second choice would have to be Ebonite, I know a lot of people complain about their coverstocks, but that has never been a problem for me.  I own a TNV that has well over 150 games on it that I keep clean and bathe regularly and it's still going strong, also my Gamebreaker is probably one of the most versatile pieces I've ever owned.  So with that being said I'm not opposed to trying other balls, but I just feel very comfortable and confident in Roto and Ebonite.

IMO its alot easier to build a 4 or 5 ball arsenal if you use just 1 company. They are normally very good at producing cores and covers that fit and work together very well. Lord knows I have drilled up 100's of balls the past 3 years and using different companies to me is too confusing. There is also way too much overlap as well. I also think it takes more balls to complete a multi company arsenal than just using 1 company. Thats just my 2 cents..

I have been using all RotoGrip stuff for the past 3 or so weeks and I am actually learning what condition each ball is best suited for. I also don't see any condition I cannot cover with the 6 (5 + spare ball) balls that I have drilled up..

Predictability when purchasing is my big reason.  Your more likely to truly know what you are getting compared to buying from different companies.  If you have several balls from one company, they are a great frame of reference for your next purchase.  Anybody who has bought a lot of equipment has likely bought a ball or two they wish they hadn't, and at the current prices, I simply want to reduce the likelyhood of that.

Of course, another reason I stick with my first choice, is durability, I have stuck to the two peice balls which do not die out like many of those with thinner coverstocks.  I've had wonderful balls from most companies, but when they are only good for a season, it becomes rather annoying.

I currently throw different companies' balls, and of the companies I've thrown(some of which I've only thrown one recent ball from), I certainly wouldn't commit to any one of them.  I have yet to throw a Morich(which I hear can be hard to control on tougher conditions), Visionary, and Storm.  I would like to be able to say that I'd commit to Storm but I have to see if I do well with their equipment.

I have tried several if not all the companys.  I found that I seem to have better success with the old Columbia or the 900 Global/AMF line.

Well I dont use just one company however after trying a few newer balls side by side with my old gold rhino pro I think I am just going to start buying pre 2000 equipment.

About 2 years ago I tried going with one company (Columbia300) but I found that I could match up with just about any ball from any company as long as it works for me and it's consistent. Company A may have one ball that I like for heavier oil while company B may have better balls that goes long and strong on the medium to lighter patterns.

Track, Roto-Grip and Columbia300 has matched up best for me overall while Ebonite and Storm has been good to use as well. So I'm currently building my arsenal on those top 3 companies because they each give me a different ball reaction that also produces the best results.

After many years of trying any and every brand of bowling equipment the market has to offer I realized for my game one particular manufactuer matches up the best with me.

From that moment I decided to only use that one company.

There are only so many years you can go to league with a lot of balls contemplating what will do what and how, why, or where.

Because of my low ball speed and rev dominance, i choose Storm cause it tends to cet a little further down the lane. So it matches up with me very well.

If it didn't exsist, and asuming this company did, I'd prolly pick Roto Grip.

I've got stuff from most manufacturers but I like to keep most of my purchases from one manufacturer.

From 1989-1994, that was AMF. From 1995-2007, it was Storm. Now it's Lane #1.

As others have mentioned, keeping things to one manufacturer keeps it simple. You can generally tell where a new offering is going to fit based on your experiences with the old offerings.

It's hard, unless you're buying every new release, to mentally keep up with every company's reaction profile. I'm doing good these days to handle two of them, Lane #1 and Storm. I kept Storm in play because, for me, the coverstocks are so different between the two companies that Storm fits in holes that Lane #1 doesn't cover, and vice versa.

What predicated the change from Storm to Lane #1, for me, was when I changed my release and more or less rebuilt my game starting in about 2005. I needed something that rolled more and most Storm gear I've owned over the years wants to get angular. I don't need a lot of help from the ball in the backend and I started to find the Lane #1 gear to be more rolly and predictable.

I throw mostly storm, I do tend to stick with storm due to my track reccord of having great sucess with storm equipment.  I have thrown Brunswick (280 and 298 with the Azure Zone Pro), and Ebonite with some success.  I have only hammer ball, purple vibe, and I didn't like it.  It was just too much ball for me, for want I though I was buying.  I never really matched up well with Columbia either.

Currently in my 4 ball bag you would find 3 Storms (Domination, Special Agent and Street Rod Pearl) and 1 Lane #1 (Crystal Clear Buzsaw)

Even though I lean towards storm, I have pro-shop guy that I trust I listen to his suggestions and make a decision based on what we conclude will be the best ball for my game and the condition that I am buying for.

I am retooling the arsenal this season and I am eye balling a MoRich (Ntense LevRG) for the flooded condition.

I use to roll anything but now I go with brunswick.  When I got back into bowling about a year ago I bought a equation and that was fine.  The first time I saw the pba patters my ball did nothing and I have hand so I was pissed.  The next week I bought a twisted fury and a blast zone and now I haven't looked back.
