My sister-in-law, right handed, averages around 190, wants to get a new ball. Except for her index finger problem she is in good health. She is in her mid 50’s. Following is her question – “I need a new ball. I use a four hole ball, with my index finger not in a hole. I hurt my ring finger and the tendon cannot take any pressure. Normally when I release the ball I cannot hit up on the ball because it will hurt my ring finger and my forearm. My adjustments are normally ball speed and lane adjustments. I need a ball that hits the pocket before it rolls out. The lanes I bowl on are wood and dry. What ball would you suggest?

My suggestion would be to go to a pro shop with a good reputation and have the pro shop watch her throw a few down the lane. If the pro shop does not want to do that - find another shop to spend your money in. Any good pro shop should take the time to do this as it is essential for ball drilling/customer satisfaction.
Without much information on revs/ball speed etc it would be difficult to suggest anything. Most of the time what I see women needing is less aggressive equipment that does not burn up (roll out) on them. More expensive doesn't equate to better equipment. But that is my opinion.

Totally agree with tuckinfenpin. With special issues like her finger it's even more important they see her bowl.

I also agree. Some of the things the pro shop should discuss is ball weight. Also, not hitting up on the ball is a plus in todays environment. Actual ball choice wont be that tough. If she is averaging 190, she probably will be looking at a tame pearl of some type. Lots of them out there

+1 to avabob!
My experience with wood lanes (regardless of oil volume) is that the lane surface is SOFT compared to synthetics. I have had waaaaay more success with pearl reactives, and usually those with symmetrical core designs. The stronger covers will usually lose energy too fast and your carry will really suffer anytime past game one. On this surface "weaker" is "stronger" and especially with medium to slower ball speeds (woman in mid 50s).
There are plenty of great options in the mid-price category that will perform great. One that I've personally loved on that surface is my Platinum Ringer. Good luck as you move forward.

i agree with everything being said. as for a very general suggestion in ball choice a lower mid performance pearl....punch out, cyclone, freeze, platinm ringer etc. also has she ever considered changing to sarge easter grip? coulde relieve stress on the ring finger

dead on advice
freeze, cyclone or new Blur

What everyone has mentioned so far is spot on. Definitely make sure the pro shop takes time to watch her throw a few shots. From there, lower-mid performance pearls are typically the best choice here. I find that solid covers can burn up too quickly on the wood. 2 additional suggestions to consider would be the Motiv Tribal or Ascent Apex.
Good thing is that basically all of the brands offer good equipment these days.
