Maybe I'm spoiled . .
« on: April 14, 2014, 03:59:20 PM »
. . but aside from a few bowlers, the collegiate singles championship event is a bit hard to watch at the moment.  Yeah I know, they're just kids, but am I out of my mind to expect the best college kids in the nation to make single pin spares and at least hit the pocket most of the time?  I mean, my buddy Kelsey Muther is doing great, along with Elise Bolton, Danielle McEwan, and Diana Zavjalova, but the two girls on the stream pair at the moment appear to actively be trying to lose.  Devin Bidwell is a very good bowler, and he's been impressive so far, but this Luongo is all over the place, missing the pocket half the time and flagging half his spares.  Is this the reality of collegiate bowling?  Am I just stuck in a great place for it and blind to how it really is?
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

Not to hijack the thread, but what is a good way to practice spares besides throwing a strike ball and shooting what is left. Trying to work with my daughter on her spare game.

Dont worry about throwing a strike at all. Just have her throw at different combinations. I like starting with each corner pin, if right handed start with 10 pin if left start with 7 pin. You want the ball to hit the pin or only take out that pin. On the 2nd ball you can choose to throw at the same spot or go to the opposite side.
After you do a game of that, you can move to a different spare combination or move on to something you want to practice that session (ex. playing outside/inside trying to hit a mark).
3rd game you can move on to score or just continue what you've been doing if you feel you need a lot of work.

Yeah, some centers also have a practice mode they can turn on for you where you can select which pins you'd like to shoot at.
