Got this feeling..
« on: March 03, 2017, 02:52:29 AM »
That the AMF house I bowl in right now might close its doors soon....it's been there for 5 or 6 decades. How the renovation stopped and everything else.. it might be done... district manager is in town this week and he has no plans on talking to league bowlers who are unhappy. Just to employees who are short staffed.

Broken machines, poor staffing, leaking roof, and more....kinda like what happened to an AMF house few miles away... you can see it coming before it closed down.

Will see... it's my and many others last season there... got to clear my locker..

Any locally owned houses within reasonable distance? It seems like a lot of these chain locations are just poorly up-kept.

Sadly, this seems to be yet another example of AMF standing for Adios, MoFo's

They got some survey thing happening and the district manager is having a meeting with the local staff. Lately, many league bowlers are unhappy with service - I ordered hot dogs and fries before league started. I got my food when I was finishing up my second game. lol

League members voiced their frustration, but it seems managements hands are tied. The older staffers, all were good and went out of their way to make everyone happy, for League and non league bowlers. But AMF/Bowlmor cut their hours (when obamacare started - from old manager), no raises after years of work, and other things.. these made the good ones leave.

The other AMF house, management restricts oiling the lanes to 2 to 3 times a week. Their league bowlers are screaming from what I've heard. The lane machine is broken and second tank isn't getting filled cause it needs to be replaced. I'm not sure exactly what's happening with the lane machine there, but from what I've heard, many unhappy bowlers at that AMF house too.

Several of us are not returning to this AMF house next season. We are going to a privately owned house with better stuff for league bowlers. $0.25 for practice anytime, free food and open soda machine once a month, bonus money/prize found $500 for adding a new team.... and it's 24 hrs. It's not a great place, but its good for me.

I am very near a locally owned center that I often practice at.  It is difficult because they are full of leagues from  9 to 9 three days a week and only have lanes from 3 to 5 on the other two days.  The next closest house to me is a Brunswick Zone ( owned now by AMF ).  It is nicely kept but I walked in there one weekday afternoon and I was the only bowler on 40 lanes.  I am told it is a similar story throughout the area where about 20 of the 28 or so centers are AMF owned.  Also the former Brunswick centers are all in better shape than the original AMF houses with a couple of exceptions.

Everyday I pass a church that once was a bowling center. I'm not sure if it was cooperate or privately owned. But it is tough to think others in the area have closed over the years.

I was spoiled to be surrounded with so many bowling centers in the old state I lived in. most of which are privately owned. Only 2 or 3 were AMF's that I knew off, the others (a dozen or so) were not. This, in less than 35 mile radius from where I lived. All of which are still open!! I guess it must be the rain..... rain checks for golf are common in this state. lol
