My Bowling Vid - "Off Balance Bowling"
« on: March 29, 2005, 02:36:04 AM »

Ok, after shooting my first video of my bowling approach
I discovered I'm way off balance when I get to the line.

Thus the title "Off Balance Bowling" - Video Linked

http://faculty.salisbury.edu/%7Ejwhoward/temp/WillynHook.wmv

So, any hints, tips, critiques of my approach?

Looking for advice.

Im no expert here, but looking at the vid you are so off balance because every step you take with your left foot goes further and further away from your body.  And at the line, you are less over your bodys center casuing you to fall off the shot, and lose leverage.

Also your ankle is not turned in, rather its pointing at the next set of lanes, to your right. Where as if you turned it "in" it would face to the left.

Well moe pointed out the first thing I noticed, when you walk your left foot steps out instead of forward while you walk, and when you come to your release you simply slide your left foot forward and try to bring your whole body back to that foot for balance. That simply is not going to work consistently. Make sure that you are walking straight but make sure each foot has its own path. Go to www.bowlingknowledge.com and read some of Fred Bordens tips they will help you. The other thing is when your coming to finish make sure you are stepping in with your left foot. Doing this will put you under your center of gravity and essentially help you with your balance.

On Edit: watched a few more times, don't mean to pick you apart or anything but I am actually pretty good with my physical game so I will give you a few things to also work on. When you start your pushaway try not to bend so much at the waist, this may also be a reason for offbalance and it cuts off leverage I know I use to do it myself. Also keep that shoulder up, don't drop it just to get closer to the lane, that may be linked with the bending at the waist though. The last thing I can see is your hand position at the end. It is bent out almost in a cradle like position(not sure how to describe it) Try not to turn the ball so much, just keep your wrist cupped and follow straight up with your hand, let your thumb get out and use your fingers to follow through, it looks like you want to use your entire arm to make the ball rotate. Sorry but these are just a few things I would recommend, someone more experienced might be of more help.

  Hex..

No please do "pick me apart." I can't see my own problems, I'm
pretty much coaching myself in this neck of the woods.

Never noticed any of what has already been said.

D*mn that video doesn't lie....
