Sacramento - Any good places to bowl?
« on: January 24, 2019, 05:34:08 PM »
A bowling friend of mine is moving to Sacramento and wants to know where the good places are to bowl.  Any recommendations for where he should try?

Haven't bowled there YET, but my understanding is that "AMF Rocklin Lanes" (a few miles north of Sac) is quite decent and puts on tournaments every so often. Moving closer soon, so I'll find out sooner, rather than later.

AMF Rocklin is a good house.

AMF Mardi Gras (I-80 and Madison) just put in new lanes and they've been good as well. If they could just replace their ball returns, they'll be better.

Country Club Lanes is also okay, as they finally just replaced their pinsetters, but while they have some leagues there, they mainly cater to the parties as they also have a prize arcade and laser tag there. They're open 24 hours.

Fireside Lanes definitely caters to the locals. Steve Cook owns it, Leanne used to run the pro shop there before taking a job at Storm HQ. PWBA stopped there and will stop there again in 2020. They need to replace their approaches and possibly their lanes; not from ball damage, but just the wear and tear they do to the body.

Others in the area are AMF Land Park, Strikes Rocklin, Strikes Elk Grove, Capitol Bowl in West Sacramento, Lake Bowl in Folsom, Woodland Bowl in Woodland, and Foothills Lanes in Auburn, but I haven't been to any of those to judge.

Personally, Mardi Gras, Fireside, Country Club, and AMF Rocklin are the best for me.

Oh, the other thing about AMF Rocklin - so far that I've seen, they are the only house that has regularly scheduled sport shot tournaments. You'll see Dan posting about them on the forum here. So it's worth the drive just for that.

Hey guys,

Yes I run 2 tournaments a month at AMF in Rocklin: Sport Pattern Challenge on the 1st Saturday of the month and the No-Tap 5 Gamer on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Here are the links to our facebook pages where I post the events:

Sport Pattern: https://www.facebook.com/sportpatternchallengeseries/?modal=admin_todo_tour
5 Gamer: https://www.facebook.com/notapsaturdays/

There is also a scratch monthly sport pattern tourney at Country Club, run by Chris Alvarez. It's usually on the 2nd Saturday of the month. We try and alternate weekends so not to overlap.

Thanks for the tournament info, Dan.  I'll pass that on to him.  I would bet that another Sacramento friend of mine, Eric Fermon, has competed in your tournaments. He's pretty avid and competitive about bowling.  But hey, aren't we all?   ;)

We are! LOL. Problem is I keep buying different $$$ balls to figure out what works best. But hey, if one is into a sport, one must keep up with it over time, right?  ;)
