.....the dread "thump - bump" when the ball hits the lane? In the last few weeks, I have developed a bounce in landing the ball on the lane. I have been working for the last couple of years on a free armswing and Jowdy's landing the ball on the lane like an "airplane landing on an aircraft carrier". Thought I was doing OK, much better year this year - then "thump -bump".
I suspect I am releasing the fingers on the upswing, the ball hits then bounces. This causes inconsistencies in the ball reaction. I've tried earlier release, no fingers in the ball, different hand positions, later push away of the ball, standing taller at the line, etc., all of which used to work to solve this problem. No luck this time.
Any suggestions? I would prefer a nice smooth, can't hear the ball hit the lane type release, but my bad right knee won't let me get down low enough right now.
