what is your average adjustment?
« on: August 23, 2009, 02:21:15 AM »
when you are bowling in league or tournament play or even practice what is your average adjustment when feel you've made a good shot and it goes 4 pin 4 9 maybe through the nose.

do you move a couple boards left and use the same speed and approach?
do you take a giant step left and slow it down?
do you move right and throw it faster and keep it on line?
maybe you do something else? what?

It does depend some on how many other bowlers are playing my line, but normally I move 1 - 2 boards left on the approach and about half of that left at the arrows.

Usually for me...

4 and 2 with the same ball.....

Or if I really like the line I am on will just go to a polished or pearl ball and play the same line.

usually dont make a move just because I left something just one time....now if I leave it more than once in just a few frames, then I will make a small adjustment.

THS:  Move my eyes further down lane or make parallel moves left.
PBAx/Tournament:  2 with feet, 1 with eyes, and front/back as necessary

I've learned that, on our lanes (wood, not the wall of China but a medium house shot), if I throw the ball right and it comes up heavy enough to leave the 4 pin I'd better move or the next shot will probably be a split.  --  JohnP

I've found this to be true on any condition I bowl on.

To answer the original question, I typically move 2 boards left with my feet and a board left at the arrows.

i thought the general consensus was 2 with your feet 1 with your eyes. that's what i like about bowling, so many different ways to do things. it kind of depends on what the ball does, i was reading an article in bowler's journal i think it was, it was descibing carry problems and adjusments. It talked about the 3 phases of ball motion. 1. skid 2. hook 3 roll. Now if i remember correctly if you leave a 4 pin the ball is still in its hook phase according to the article, so in that case you need to give the ball more time to get into its roll either by moving back on your approach (if you can) or moving a bit left. Dont quote me on this one but i believe it said when you leave the 10 its getting into the roll too quickly there for move up or move right. If you can find the last issue its a great article for what you're talking about.

well in the house i bowl in the most if you make a move left the ball begins to hang at the breakpoint so i need to make a 4 board move left and slow it down a bit

yea i think it was just general rules, every house is different im learning that slowly as i dont move around a whole lot but im starting to get more into bowling and start trying to learn to play at any house, i just know for me regulating speed is something i struggle with, at the house im at right now by the 4th game of the 6 we bowl, i have to speed up my delivery and really put something on the ball or its gonna take off too early, im a big believer in doing whatever works for you, like i said i love it becasue its such a versitile sport in the sense that every bowler adapts differently.
