Hy Road or Copperhead
« on: December 30, 2008, 02:28:21 AM »
I can't decide between these two. I'm looking to get back into bowling after a 8 month layoff due to another injury. I can only afford one bowling ball so I need something versitale for a medium 41 foot THS (Synthetics) Will add more new stuff as I start bowling more leagues and Tournys.

Just lookin to get some opinons to help me make a decision so any input will be greatly appreciated.

I'd say the Hyroad would fit more conditions if the surfaces were left at the box condition but the Copperhead does take surface adjustments well.

As does the Hy-Road. Same ball numbers wise, just depends on what you are looking for shape wise. Copperhead has more of an earlier acring motion, Hy Road can be a little snappier out of the box.

I always say to start with control first.  The Copperhead is the more arc type reaction of the two and thus, more controllable.  Either ball will be fine.  However, on a 41 foot pattern, I would lean toward the Copperhead.

My team mate uses a Copperhead, pretty versatile ball he is able to move inside with it and get the ball to recover from inside angles after the oil starts going away.

I hear Hyroad is good but does not handle carrydown very well, get pretty snappy in later games. This ball I have not seen in person so that is 3 rd person from a guy who comped stuff for tournaments.

Better yet, if you can wait, look into the Rattler when it comes out.  It will have the same cover as the Org/Blk Inferno (Activator) and fall in the same price point as the Copperhead.  If you can't wait, then the Copperhead is the better choice.

Knock the polish off the Hy-Road, or sand it to 1000 abralon then lightly polish with a non-abrasive polish like Snake Oil and it'll be smoother and handle carrydown much better.  The R2S coverstock is one of my favorites, and the solid/pearl hybrid gives it a very middle-of-the-road reaction, which is excellent for a house shot.  I loved the Hy-Road that I got to throw at a Storm Open House.

Do not underestimate the strength of the hy-road...this ball can handle a good amount of volume and is a great first ball out of the bag benchmark type ball.  My 2 hyroads can cover just about any condition i see.

The copperhead and myself just did not match up very well, hooked very early OOB, then as i stepped the surface up it just didnt want to round the corner no matter how much friction i threw it to...have seen this ball work well for others, just not for myself.

Our shops sells plenty of both. The HyRoad is longer and sharper, while the Copperhead is much more smooth. With some shine the Copperhead will make a much bigger turn late, but still not quite as angular as the HyRoad.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'm going to go with the Copperhead.
