Poor Sports in league get a head slap
« on: December 15, 2006, 02:53:36 AM »
I bowl in a pretty good Handicapped league on Thursday nights with some of my old softball buddies. Its a 4 man league, 3 of us carry an average between 195 and 210 with one of our guys at 150. We have our ups and downs but we have fun and bowl consistently marking the 7th best record in the league out of 24 teams.

We have never had a disagreement or ran into a team that we didnt have a good time with until last night. We played the team with the best record last night.. all good bowlers, all related (averages 200+) but not very happy people. First game we beat them in a scratch game 805 to 734, second game the got us 775 to 815 and the third we laid the wood to them 897 to 820. Winning the match 5-2.

In the third game these people turned into the dirtiest competitors I have seen in a while. It was like bowling against a bunch of punks that would yell out when you were delivering the ball or just trying to distract you from making a good shot. By around the 4th frame we where down to them buy bout 20 pins... in the next 2 frames me and my teammates served up 8 consecutive strikes which carried into a 55 pin turn around by the end of the 7th. This is when the real nonsense started. Our best bowler was waived on to the approach by our opponent. He was working on a string of 3 in a row. He setup and started his shot, then all of a sudden the guy that had waved him on comes flying up beside him which looked like a clear move to distract him; which it did. But lucky for us he threw a good enough shot that hit Brooklyn and left only a 10 pin. So we got thru the next few frames with more of this garbage and we were starting the 10th. Both sides had marks in the ninth and we were up by  30 pins or so. I bowled second and i was on the approach setting up from my first ball. I take my first step and I hear someone behind me yell Chris your a sandbagger and you suck. SO I had to stop before delivering the ball and confront this knucklehead. After a 90 second expletive exchange I finished dropping a 269 on them, striking out just for spite. My other teammates bowled 245, 215 and 168 respectively just trying to drive the dagger a little deeper with every successive ball. We got them and got them good. Well after whipping them and out lasting there antics, we got the score sheet back from them and it just so happens that they had recorded the score backwards awarding themselves the wins. Finally we had to get the league secretary involved cause I guess this isnt the first time these guys have tried to steal wins. It really made us angry that someone would try to pull something like that. Grow up compete like a man, be a good sport and say good game if you get beat; Not you guys still suck!

end rant

That's what the sargeant-at-arms and the league president are for.  Get an official involved, get it known that they're pulling this kind of carp.  Warn 'em once, suspend 'em twice.  Rule 17-b-1 governs improper conduct:

quote:
Rule 17b. An individual can also be charged with the following violation(s):
1. Engaging in improper tactics or conduct in connection with the game of bowling including, but not limited to, physical and verbal abuse toward other persons.

Second, Rule  115-a-1-a says

quote:
Rule 115a. A league member can file a written charge asking for removal of a league officer or dismissal of a player. [CAQ #’s 137 and 138]
1. A player may be dismissed from the league or an officer removed from league office only for any of the following reasons:
a. Conduct derogatory to the best interest of the league.

Don't put up with their nonsense.  Threaten 'em with suspension.  Suspend them.  I know people will say "what's the difference, you won anyway" but that's no excuse for putting up with it.

Yeah, what Shelley said!  And then, since you all are softball buddies, meet them out in the parking lot and really lay the wood (or aluminum) to them!

I am not a small guy at 6'4 and 305... So when we get them again in a few weeks in the round robin I might have to bring my retired bat.

T.J.

BOWLING IS FUN NO MATTER WHAT YOU SCORE. BUT A 300 IS ALWAYS NICE.

STRIKE ZONE & PYRO. STAND 22 AND THROW 10 OUT TO 5 AND CRUSH THE POCKET. AT LEAST THAT IS THE PLAN OF THE NIGHT...

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD BOWLING!!!
