Chiropractor
« on: April 01, 2007, 02:37:35 PM »
Just curious if anyone has had to go to the chiropractor due to a bowling injury.  I've been fighting with an injury that's about 4 inches down from my neck between my spine and shoulder blade.  Doctor says it is a pulled muscle and I needed physical therapy.  Did that and still pain.  It's been like this for 6 months almost straight.  This makes the 3rd month this season I've been out due to this injury.  The x-rays showed up negative so there's no bone issues but that doesnt help the pain.  I'm just curious if anyone has had any issues like this and how they corrected them.  I'm in a good bit of pain but mainly it is when I bowl which is why I'm not.  It originated from bowling and that's the main thing that aggravates it.

Thanks,
Nick

That's what I'm waiting for.  Going to suggest it to the dr. on my next appointment comes up thursday.  Gotta tell her the physical training isnt doing anything so I can get a referral to something else.

I go to the chiropractor once a month to keep things where they should be.  I did fall last year while bowling and landed hard on my knee.  Was getting a lot of pain in my knee while bowling after that night.  I mentioned it to my chiropractor one visit and he took a look at it and was able to manipulate it back into place.  I haven't had a problem again with it since.  He also does wonders for Carpal Tunnel.  My wrist does not bother me as bad now, especially if I am bowling multiple times in a week.

I go to the Chiropractor for a neck issue that I've been having for the last couple of months. It does seem to help.

As for your situation, I'm not really sure what they will be able to do for a muscular issue like that. I know my guy's office offers deep-tissue massage therapy and acupuncture; either one of those might help.

If I were you, I'd just continue laying off the bowling to see if that helps. If you're getting pain during everyday activity, you may need to see some kind of specialist and get an MRI or something.

Good luck to you in whatever you decide to try. I know it sucks to constantly live with pain.

I've gone to the chiropractor over the years for many issues. I would highly recommend you seek out a reputable one & don't put off going. I have been helped on every occasion.

Thanks for the advice everyone.  The dr. says its a muscle issue but it does not feel like a muscle.  To begin with i thought it was but just this week the pain has been more of a shooting pain which is why I'm leaning towards a nerve.  That's why I'm thinking about going to the chiropractor.  I appreciate all the advice.

I went to the chiropractor after a car accident that left my neck and upper back in a knotted state.  After a few adjustments, I felt better than I did during the 5 months of "traditional" care I had received prior.  My traditional care regimen included upper body massage, physical therapy (exercises), and ultrasound massage.  It wasn't until the chiropractor put the misaligned vertebrae back into place that the pain was eliminated at its source.

Muscle pain can result from pinched or compressed nerves due to a subluxation (misalignment).  Depending on where the compression is occurring, there might be other physiological issues occurring that you don't necessarily attribute to the back pain - digestive issues, organ function, etc.

Traditional medicine has a fatal flaw in that treatment of the symptoms takes precedence over treating the cause.  It's like trying to stop a forest fire without stopping the kid who is lighting the matches.

That, combined with orthopedic "surgeons" - what else are they going to recommend???

The chiropractor has helped me tremendously. I fought an injury for TWELVE YEARS using conventional methods - PT, massage, anti-inflammatories, etc - and one session with a chiropractor eliminated almost all the symptoms.

Also check out acupuncture. Works wonders!

Thanks for the suggestions.  Starting to feel a little better about going now.  Have heard it's a little scary the first time though.  Am I going to experience any pain, or just stuff popping that sounds bad?

Hello this is Mrs Ratpack replying I have been to a Sports Injury Clinic and a Chiro both are good. The Sports Injury Clinic people suggest warm up exercises which help and if I do pull anything then the Chiro sort that out. The first time I went I didn't know what to expect but it was fine it didn't hurt but the noises that came out of my neck and back were a bit scary, I was told that the noise was only the built up gas being eliminated from the joints so that put my mind at rest. So the only thing left to say is GO and GET IT SORTED you will feel heaps better, I do.

Great to hear all this.  I'm a little more relieved.  I'll go ahead and find out who's good around here and who's covered by my insurance.  Thanks for the help and boost of confidence everyone.
