Title: Tornado outbreak
Post by: Tripcee on May 19, 2013, 07:46:51 PM
So far I haven't been in the line of fire up in NE Oklahoma, but how about everyone else? Anybody close to the damage come out alright?

I've been watching streaming coverage from news9.com (KWTV) out of Oklahoma City tonight.  The good news is that they are reporting no major injuries so far.  But, the tornadoes themselves looked really nasty from what they showed live.

red cross reported one dead so far. We were in and out of the safe room all evening. Bad thing is this is just the start.

Apparently more storms tomorrow...

Correction from earlier- the news was updated to show that there have been some fatalities.

There were 2 tornado just north of Earlham and south of State Center in Iowa. Roof damage of one house and limbs of trees in that area. Ahead of that storm 80 mph winds. No deaths nor people hurt.

According to maps tomorrow is going to be worse for NE Oklahoma majorily. NE Oklahoma and southern Missouri. Dunno about up north. I didn't get anything but some sprinkling here, but the night is still young.

I watched 9's stream all day, and that F5 was CRAZY. The F3 and F4 that hit Shawnee was pretty wicked, too. If I were off work me and a couple guys would make a trip down to help. I didn't get to help with the Joplin aftermath, unfortunately.

Anyway, gotta stay buckled down cause it's still gonna get worse. Once that dry line moves all hell will break loose.

I just saw another map for where the dry line is going. It's backed up, delaying the moving out of the system. At 3 PM tomorrow, the dry line is going to be right on top of OKC. Right back into the same situation.

I live on the NW edge of OKC and no damage today, but tomorrow looks like the odds could be worse. We jsut had our roof totaled and otehr damage by a hail storm April 26th I believe it was.

This would probably be the biggest reason why I left the midwest. I miss it, but I don't miss the tornadoes (though I have the hardest time explaining what a tornado is to people here in NorCal, let alone how much damage it causes compared to an earthquake).

I have relatives in Edmond, Midwest City, Del City, hell, just about any town east of OKC out to Muskogee. I missed this yesterday, so I'm spending all day making phone calls.

BL.

Around 4:00 pm I may be wrong on the time. A tornado hit Moore,Oklahoma major damage including a school with kids. My prayers and thoughts with the town of Moore. If you have Weather Channel tune to it.

Oolagah just got nailed, too. Don't know the extent, but been watching this thing from Claremore. Everybody was panicking about it, and it looks like there's a major storm brewing down south and following 44 up.

Although not official at the moment, the preliminary report is that the tornado was an F-5 and 2 1/2 miles wide.

51 people dead and counting so far at Moore. 24 of those are children whom were in a school that got demolished. May be more as they continue the search.

One didn't get much attention because it went through rural areas, but this thing looked to be bigger than the Moore tornado.

Hit Wyandotte and went North. Didn't do structural damage as far as I know.

They're calling this worse than the May 3rd tornado. I can believe it, as this thing was more monstrous in size, and the destruction path more intense. Moore and Shawnee look worse than Joplin did...And that's saying something.

This all reminds me of April 27, 2011.  That was a day I'll never forget.  Good luck to all those affected.

Yeah I was down there today aiding in some relief effort. I haven’t been to Joplin but I did get called out to go do relief in New Orleans for Katrina. Although this is not as wide spread as New Orleans for as concentrated it is I would say it was on par. For all but a small area that this thing was on the ground it was in a populated area and it moved very slow. 17 miles in 50 min at 2 miles wide. You could easily tell what was towards the center of it and what was towards the outside of the tornado. It was a sad sad place and many people lost everything. If you an afford $10 please give to the Red Cross.
