Great article!
I bowl with a kid on my Sunday night league who has a tremendous amount of physical talent. He's always in perfect time, he has great balance, and he's strong.
But he carries a 175 average, because all he wants to do is hook the lane. If he can't ride the gutter and watch the ball come back from there to smash the rack, he's not happy. A typical game for him is:
x | 7-2 | x | x | 0-/ | 8-0 | x | x | 4-5 | x-7-2 |
19 | 28 | 48 | 68 | 86 | 94 | 118 | 137 | 146 | 165 |
If this kid tamed his ball down and played a simple little swing shot, he'd easily be the best bowler in the league. But he won't do that, 'cause it ain't fun. For him, it
is about "how" not about "how many".
