Tournament Arsenal
« on: October 12, 2008, 03:29:41 AM »
I was just wondering if anyone practices with their tournament gear, and if so how often?

I have my regular league stuff (powerdrive & vapor zone) and then I have 4 balls I only bring out for tournaments.

I ask because I went to a tournament and tried to use my tournament gear and it took about a game and a half to get used to and comfortable with the reactions. I didn't bowl bad just not as good as I could have.

Does anyone else have different arsenals and has anyone had this problem as well?

I take out my tourney when I can get the house to lay out a different pattern than the typical THS.  I am now in a PBA league so will get to use and stay in tune with my tourney stuff more...

I try to pull out my tournament stuff once a week. I really just shift stuff around. I'll take 4 non-tourney and 2 tourney balls to the alley to throw pretty much every day, that way, I get to throw my tourney stuff as well as just practice without wasting my good balls away.

As far as tournaments go, I bowl practically every weekend in some kind of tournament, so I get to throw them weekly anyway. Usually I'll bowl league with my tournament balls on Saturday, so that by Sunday morning, I've had a feel. As a general rule: practice with my tournament stuff ONLY the day before a tournament.

Semi-high speed (16-17 mph)

For a game based on the principles of science and math, bowling sure does have a bad habit of being illogical.

I don't have just a tourney arsenal. I throw different balls at different houses. if I have a tourney i'll normally bring 10 or 12 balls to a tourney..
