Do you try to find out what the pattern will be before a tourny,and prepare your balls accordingly. Do you get to know in advance??.

While it would be nice to know what the pattern is before the tournament, there are too many outside factors that will affect the way that pattern may play. These factors can include:

1) Type of lane surface
2) Oil used to put out this particular pattern
3) Temperature/ humidity within the bowling center
4) Amount of open play before the tournament starts

And any other combination from there. It's best to go in with a decent arsenal for skid/flip and arcing balls, as well as some shiny and some dull equipment so that you can cover a majority of what you may see out there.
