Tournament rolloff rules question..........
« on: March 28, 2004, 04:11:51 AM »
Saw a post this morning about a tournament where the tournament manager had the teams have a rolloff of 9th and 10th frames again by erasing those frames on the scoreboard and the person who posted lost because he had to take his 8th frame score of a spare and his opponent went into the 9th with a strike.
ABC Rule 327 prohibits scoring changes. By "erasing" the 9th and 10th frames and having the bowlers bowl that way he is in violation of this rule. A protest can be filed as long as it's before the money is paid to that winner.
 Check out www.bowl.com
 The rules are there.

You need to make sure it was a sanctioned tournament. A director can make up any ole rules he wants. ABC rules only apply in absence of any existing rule. Same goes for league. If your league has a rule in place that bowlers can MAKE up there frames after arriving late after the fifth frame, they can. If there is no rule in place, then the ABC rule would apply. The ABC rulebook is not the universal rules of bowling. ABC only counts if the tournament/league is sanctioned, evn then the league/tournament doesnt have to follow the book to a tee.

The post that I was referring to did not say if it was a sanctioned tourney or not but I was tryign to repeat the post and answer the question of the original posting person at the same time so that others could understand the question and my answer to that question at the same time.
I would hope that if the tourney WAS sanctioned that the director WOULD follow the rules. If he did not then I would have filed a protest in accordance with the rules.
Besides, don't most tourney posters say that they us this or that rule about handicaps and or reporting previous earnings?? If so then would they not have to be sanctioned by using the ABC rule????????
