I'm all for innovation.  Many things in bowling are created by the hhhmmmm what if's.  Just the thought of hitting a bad slug with a hammer and having it explode into little pieces is scary.  Some guy cooking in his kitchen and not testing anything before he gives it to someone to install is bad.  I wear glasses that help to prevent injury but a lot of pro shop guys don't. I don't want to be the tester for other people's things unknowingly.
