new inserts - feel 'slick'
« on: September 04, 2014, 01:20:12 PM »
The shop I frequent put in some finger inserts that are different. These different inserts feel slick. For the first time in many, many, many years, I feel that I will lose the ball somewhere in my back-swing, follow through or release.

I do not grip the ball, and this new feel is totally foreign to me.

It is obvious to return the equipment and explain my concern, but I would like to exhaust all other avenues if at all possible before going to the shop.

Is there anything I can do to the grips to help? Can I take an emery board to the inside lightly? Will this feel wear off? Rosin - pine tar - magic goo?

You have any idea what brand they are?  If they are Vise, they usually feel slick to begin with.  You could try a hair bit of acetone, that will "eat" the surface off the grips and should make them tackier without damaging them, provided you don't use much.  Put a bit on the corner of a towel and work the grip with it a little, that should help.
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

Thanks Gizmo823. I will put some acetone on a q-tip for added control.

I do not know what brand they are. I will certainly find out though, and request those not be put in my equipment.

They are a clear/natural color and are softer than the vise that are normally installed.  I do like the soft feel of these, but do not like the apparent lack of grip. I do have some extra vise power lifts as I transitioned to power ovals late last year in the event these go south.

I have yet to have a set of Vise that are/feel slick to begin with. Every set that I have ever had are tacky/sticky to begin with. I use both Turbo and Vise, depending on the type grip I want in a ball, but I do use Turbo more than Vise because of the tacky/sticky feel of the Vise. Were it not for that, I would use Vise all of the time because their sizes seem to be more consistant than Turbo's are.

Hmm.  I have a guy that uses Vise and they feel slick to me but he says they're tacky . . I've personally never used Vise so I'll take your word on this one.

Just my opinion, but check out tenth frame finger inserts if you get the chance, they are tacky and feel great.  I have been using them for a couple of years now, really satisfied with them.
