track bowtie??
« on: November 22, 2009, 05:16:08 PM »
Hi, i recently drilled a wild card and notied the bowtie(area on the track where the track rotates. track axis) is right near my middle finger.

Is this a problem?
Any way to fix it?
I already have a weight hole in the ball.

The pin is below the ring finger with the cg kicked right, about 2 inches from the center of my grip.

Only reason i ask is because i've never had this happen before/

TIA

The usual way to fix this is to put a weight hole in the proper place. There are two usual places. One is 2" past your PAP (not usually a good choice, as this is a large flaring ball and the track could flare over it) and the second is 2.5" - 3" below your PAP, along the VAL. The hole must be large enough to affect the core: at least 7/8" wide and 2.5" deep.

The driller could plug the current weight hole and drill one of the above.

Unless the track flares over your finger hole, I wouldn't worry about it.

High trackers usually need to keep the pin in a safe zone. That zone is normally on or above the line from your positive axis point to & thru  your ring finger.

Since you have not had this problem before, you're either throwing the ball slightly differently, the driller never placed the pin this low for you before or the ball's CG was not located properly before drilling (either by the manufcaturer or by the driller). There may be another reason, which someone else will chime in with, but I can't think of it right now.

As charlest said, it's only a problem if the track is flaring into the finger holes.  To estimate where the bowtie of a layout will be located, draw a line from the proposed PAP location through the proposed pin location to where the line hits the initial track ring.  The bowtie location can be changed by balance holes.  A graphic showing the pin safe zones for high and low trackers is at the bottom of the Hammer drillsheet in the following link.  --  JohnP

carry is fine, reaction is a little less than my alliance tour.
i've never seen anyone else throw it, so i wouldn't know if it is being adversely affected by this.
I am only worried because the first oil line on my track is running over the finger and thumb. not by much, but it is rolling over that spot. going down the lane, i can't hear it rolling over the holes though.
