Track Dries Out So Fast???
« on: April 29, 2008, 11:51:26 AM »
Practiced today. Lanes had not been bowled on. Used my Ebonite Crossfire, standing  25, throwing over 14. Ball goes left at breakpoint (8 - 10), straightens out and goes into the pocket. Bam! First dozen or so balls, perfect strikes.

Then, all of a sudden, the track disappears! Like someone threw a switch. I moved 2 and 1 in both directions and the ball was either light or high.

Now, I am an old phart and certainly not as consistent as one should be, but to have the track (shot, line whatever) simply disappear all of a sudden is mysterious. Synthetic lanes, 2 years old, not much oil (THS).

I am curious. Can one person dry out a track in a dozen or so balls? Yes, they were thrown almost exactly down the same line but for a change to occur so suddenly seems to be odd. Or ??????

No it happends all the time. a line can change in an instant. you have to remember there are a ton of things that effect a lane condition besides you throwing on it. temperature, humidity lights etc. also what could have happened is a mental thing also. you got away with a few shots then missed and thought it was gone. who knows. and if it is gone sometimes bigger moves than just 2/1's are needed.

Sounds like the center I work at.

The lanes change fast.  If you are lucky you'll get one game out of the track by making small moves and then you'd better take a huge step (jump) over!

And that is on the LEFT side!  LOL!

remeber it is warmer now and the lanes will change a little different and their is more humdidty in the air.

I like it when the track torches right away it makes for good practice doing things and standing places you wouldn't normally
