Track Spare+ VS.........
« on: February 29, 2016, 10:24:24 AM »
a Pink HAMMER?

I know, I know.  Many of you won't be able to relate to this question, but I am legitimately asking it.

I've always had slower speed, and too much hand for my own good. Been very "hit and miss" this year. Shoot 650 one week, then 500 the next. Nothing has been consistent for me, at least nothing but where the dirt is, and everything has tended to over react/over hook. Then I brought out the old Pink HAMMER and that all changed.

I've been able to move right and play the dry track area all night long with the old Pinkie. Had to scuff the surface a bit, but have averaged about 215-220 the last couple of weeks with it, but man is this thing heavy!

The Pink Hammer was pretty unusual in that it was quite hard urethane, and also not very porous either. It was popular with me back during the "limited distance" lane condition days, and I was quite surprised when it started working as well as it has.

So, what do you guys think?  Would/could the Spare+ be a viable replacement for the old Pink Hammer?

(P.S. No, I do not want to get rid of the Pink ball. My son bought it for me, and it has sentimental value.)

I could see it, but not highly polished.

I'm seeing beyond great results from 5 people in league with a pitch black..I'll be getting one soon.
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]

I was bowling back in those days but I don't remember anybody throwing the pinky but from what I've heard of it I think a Rebel Tank of if you could find one a Brunswick Avalanche might be closer to the Pinkie.

The Track spare+ and add some surface should work well

No love for the Faball Nail?   I believed it to be the little brother to the more popular Pinkie.  (Hooks slightly more IMO.  Durometer readings around 81-84)

There's a fellow in Hawaii who's selling a bunch of Nails on Ebay.   Prices are steep, and he's bit more of a curmudgeon than I am.   Just so you know.

Pitch Blue with lots and lots of polish.

I have a Taboo Spare which is a slightly stronger core and I would not consider it a Urethane reaction.  Nice ball to have but not a pink hammer.

I have and throw both.

The track spare OOB is a little weaker than the pink hammer.  However, once the polish wore off the track spare, it now is stronger than my pink hammer.

If I polish the track spare, it goes back to being slightly weaker until the polish goes away.

The are fairly close in where I use them on the lanes however, the ball motion is different.  The pink hammer will get into a roll sooner as a urethane with a mild back end.  While the track spare goes longer, but the core in it allows it to cover more boards on the back end and carry is very good.  Both are great spare balls when you throw them straight.

Thanks for all the help guys. Back when urethane first came out, I got the nickname "Plasticman" because I wouldnt let go of my old blue, white, and yellow dots. I used to love the old polyester balls, and didnt switch to urethane until the mid 1980's when oil volumes got decent.

Then, along came short oil, and I went back to my white dots, until the pso talked me into a Pink Hammer, and I fell in love. Bowled with it for a long time, but screwed up and sold it. My son found me another one at a flea market (of all places) and got it for me. I aint letting this one go!

But, I switched to lighter weights years back, and Pinkie is a heavy 15, almost 16, and I hurt after throwing it for three games. I need something in the light 15, heavy 14, range that doesn't hurt my hand after three games.

I've tried some other "modern" urethanes, but with little success. Missed out on my chances to try the Taboo spare or the True Blood, but saw others doing ok with them. But, after all the "hype" about how you can't compete unless you're using resin, I guess it got into my head. I got over that finally, and am ready to explore my other possibilities finally.

Short of somebody coming out with the Pink Hammer shell on a more dynamic weightblock, I think a polyester with one is my next best shot. (Yes, I also missed the Visionary urethane Gargoyle. 😡)

I think there is a Spare+ in my future.

There just happens to be a pink hammer on ebay right now...a heavy 14..

it is used, but seems to be in decent shape.

I would consider that to be a light 15# ball so should fill the weight Juggernaut was looking for.

The ball referenced in the eBAY link is a red hammer not a pink hammer.

I looked at it, and was thinking the same thing. The serial # doesn't look right to me for it to be an actual pink hammer.

I was just thinking that unless the color on those pictures or my PC is way, way off, that is not  PINK hammer; it's a red hammer. I know my PC color is very good at color representation.
