That deadly slump
« on: October 11, 2006, 07:57:18 AM »
AARRRGGGG... That slump, we've all been there. Usually, getting out of it has not been a problem, but a pain in my wrist and a change in my game has made it difficult. I haven't hit 600 in over a month, I went from a 209 summer average to a 184 ave. in week 6 now. I shot 185, 243, 161 last week. Although I felt like I just wasn't getting that carry the first game. Anyway, I had to start wearing a pro release support, which I really like. Now here's where I need the help.

I'm trying to get back to the basics, but the question is, what do you guys do? Last week, I never missed the pocket for the first two games, one game I carried (243), one game I didn't (185), so I know I'm on the right track. I'm just curious how everyone here digs their way out of what is sometimes a seemingly endless slump.

Carry a lot of time can be a move as little as 1 board left for instance if you are leaving the 10 pin a lot or naybe just move back 4 or 5 inches same target. Another thing that wiil hinder carry is a muscled swing, can be right in pocket and continually leave 10 pin make sure you are having a nice smooth swing and hit your target. Don't think about the shot before or the frame before they are gone stay in the moment it works just simple things try them

Thanks Carl you made me realize something..i have been stoning 10 pins like crazy.to the point of frustration.  Last week in league i threw one ball out of the pocket. i left nothing less than a 9 count and and had about 12-15 10 pins.  I have been working on freeing up my armswing.(very hard to do)this may be why im leaving sooo many 10's.

Wow, Riley was so right on... tonight I shot 675, including punching out the second game to win by 6 (I'm the anchor)...Each time I made a mistake, the next frame I just told myself "Let it go, nothing you can do about it now, get back on the horse"...and It worked. Now I know there are nights when it all goes wrong but tonight I think it really helped me... Thanks
