Author Topic: Has anybody else ever noticed that Heavy Oil Particle balls don't like polish??? (Read 2379 times)

Over ther last 2 years, I've had these Heavy Oil Particle balls:

Track Champ, HPH, Reaction ARC, Predator Jungle Green, and Detonator - to name a few.

When these balls are sanded, they are hook MONSTERS! But when I've put like 1500-2000 polish on them, it literally KILLED the backend reaction!

I can't figure it out?

And I'm talking about on CLEAN backends, too!

Is there something about Heavy Oil Particle balls that don't like polish?

Now I know that polish takes away the "oil handling capabilities", but you would think that a little dab of polish on these balls would help store energy for the backend (and I'm talking about CLEAN backends, too), but that's not the case. It kills the backend!

Now on the other hand, I've taken "milder" particle balls like the Mass Chaos, Extreme Chaos, Reaction REV, and EZ Money, and added 2000 polish, and these balls had TONS of backend... now keep in mind that these balls are NOT Heavy Oil particle balls and that the polish DIDN'T kill the backend on these balls!

Why???

All this was done with the same kind of polish, and everything was prepared the same. It seems like the milder particle balls LOVE polish and they store energy for a stronger reaction on the backend. And it seems that the Heavier Load Particle balls HATE polish and they lose backend reaction when polished.

So basically - has anybody else experienced this? And does anybody know what causes the Higher load particle balls to loose backend hook potential when polished?

I've used the TKO Contender and the Enforcer with polish.....Ultimate Black Magic Ultra to be exact.....and it magnified the backend a few times over. These balls are also high load heavy oil particles

Pin_Krusher IS a serious threat to modern day bowling wood as we know it today.

Why would you want to polish a high-load particle? I know there might be the occasional need for it - but for the most part, there's a reason these balls come "sanded".

To get the smoother reaction of a particle without the early hook. I know guys who use polished Fuze Detonators on medium conditions to even out the over-under.

The original question was about Heavy Oil balls...
then maybe that Fuze Detonator is not the right ball for the condition.

I used an Amf Angle Evolution Tour. It is a very high load particle. I kept one dull for oil and one polished (in a luster king 10 minutes) for mediums with good head oil. The polished ball didn't have the backend of a strong reactive, but it did even out over/under and hit. Even the polished ball needed head oil and didn't really snap. It did hook plenty though and have a strong arc motion as soon as it left the oil. That tour is one of the best balls I've ever used!

Sand the ball down, then shine it up using the Trizak System from Brunswick. Then throw a coat of polish on it or put it in a Lustre Kleen machine. You'll definitely see some backend movement when the backends are clean. =:^D

Some like it and some don't. One of my FAVORTIE sport shot balls is a polished Columbia WOW drilled with the CG in the grip center and the pin under the ring finger. Doesn't cover a lot of boards, but that's what you want on many conditions. The polish keeps it playable longer than the unpolished version. Great hit with this surface and layout (for me anyway). However, there are other particle balls that I've shined and hated the reaction - probably because I was trying to throw them on the wrong conditions or trying to cover too many boards.

T-GOD, all these balls were sanded down to 320-600 and THEN polished and they still didn't want to hook.

On the other hand, my friend had a Trauma Response that he had polished up and it had a strong backend! But I haven't had any luck when I've polished a Higher Particle load ball!

I just wonder is there something about Higher Particle Load balls that make them not like polish???

Ric, sand/shine the balls like I said, using the Trizak System. Then put a high gloss polish on them. Sanding particle balls with sandpaper often times kills the reaction. =:^D
