timing question?
« on: October 29, 2008, 12:30:05 AM »
what part of a bowlers timing is off when he sends the ball wide playing up the boards?  For example, a right handed bowler playing straight up the 2nd arrow but sends the ball a little off mark to the right(wide).

Given that this bowler's approach and swing is lined up correctly with the 2nd arrow, this looks to me like an instance of late timing. In my experience, the most common cause of (too) late timing comes from setting the swing in motion too late.

I get my ball in the swing really late.
I have to keep my feet slow.
If I send the ball wide, I'm normally foot fast.
If I send the ball in-early, My feet got fast.

Jensm is correct.  You are assuming it is a timing problem when it could be more related to swing, finish position, shoulder alignment and launch angle.

Frank,
You normally get "fast feet" when you get the ball wide when you shoot2nd arrow.
From  what I've seen, bowling with you.

I agree with everyone here. Your feet are 2 fast which is causing problem. Make sure first step ball is in motion no matter how fast ur feet are. Mainly just slow and steady

"Common wisdom" says that the swing should normally be set in motion on the first step in a 4-step approach. I use five steps, so I set my swing in motion on step 2.

I use 5 steps. I put ball in motion on 2nd step and have found I can vary my timing by the speed I push the ball out the drop point. It feels a little strange at first but it works for me.

Rich, I think your onto something.  Playing deeper lines usually masks the problem becaus the ball is going wide to begin with.  Playing more direct REALLY shows when mistakes are made.  Plus with me bowling on very tough patterns it shows even more because the balls not going to recover because of a wall.

Video man, video! It may not be your timing at all.
