A ball with surface will sometimes burn up early and stop hooking on the backend. When you polish it it will skid and then hook strongly on the back.

Since all the hook is at once on the backend it appears that the ball hooks more and that type of hook is hard to control.

In general you can tame a ball down with surface prep and drilling but it is better to use balls designed for that condition as others have stated.

If you're referring to Control-It, please  remember it is not a normal polish. It has a slip agent in it which reduces overall hook and REDUCES the backend. If it reduces the backend, it sure as heck reduces the continuity! This does not allow it to save energy, so to speak. It virtually prevents the energy from being stored for the backend, as an analogy. That's why I asked if he applied it properly.

The problem you run into with trying to weaken a resin ball shell is that you weaken the needed back end reaction as much as the unwanted up front reaction. 

Urethane is the most under utilized cover on the market right now.  People think only power guys can get it to hit, but it actually works as good or better for straighter players who can square up with it outside on broken down patterns, or over under house shots.

You're dreaming.  Take a hook in a box like a Rogue Cell and deaden it.  Not worth the effort.  Wasn't made to do it.  Plug it and drill for left hander.
