I was practicing with my Invasion today and I wasn't getting the reaction I wanted (longer oil pattern). My track was about 2 1/2 inches from my thumb and fingers. I tucked my pinky for a couple of games and my rev rate increased and my track migrated to about 1 inch from the fingers and thumb. My back end reaction was much better as expected.
Whats your thoughts?

I'll tuck my pinky in on occasion when I need more movement on the ball usually the first game. Then I'll stop once the lanes start to break down. Works out pretty well.

I too have noticed with me tucking pinky now, my track got higher also.

I bowled with a tucked pinky for several years beginning in the late 1980's thru approx. 2001. Then I quit tucking it, but don't remember why I did. I never did have a problem with any type injury from doing this. I had two 300''s with a tucked pinky and a bunch of games in the 270's, not counting all of the 260's and 250's, etc. Have never came close again since I quit tucking my pinky but I doubt that is all of the reason I haven''t came close since though.

In my experiences, tucking the pinky gets the ball down the lane a lot easier. It helps me get my thumb out of the ball faster. The ball in turn, has more motion at the end of the pattern. I find when I tuck my pinky, I get about 2 more boards of backend hook. Enough to leave a 4, or 4-9 where I was striking earlier.

it keeps the ball weight under your index finger better which keeps you up the back more. Thats the reason for better energy downlane

I've been tucking my pinky for the last few years, and it makes a noticeable difference in creating a stronger backend reaction, which I prefer. On the downside, I am getting a decent sized bump now on the top inside of the first joint where the ball contacts the pinky finger. I'm bowling a lot more this year than usual, which probably isn't helping. I'm thinking of coming up with something to put on/over that spot/finger that might help cushion and protect it to see if that helps reduce the bump while still letting me tuck the finger. Any ideas?

If you are tucking your pinky and your track is higher or closer to the finger and thumb hole the reason is probably because you are stretching your span. The longer your span the higher you will track it, so if you want to lower your track just shorten your span to a more relaxed fit.

Tucking the little finger cause the ball to react more on the backend.

Tucking the pinky is the only way to go for scoring I believe. I use it for throwing it straight at a 10 pin or 7 pin or my strike ball. After trying it out learning it from the pros and other people 10 years ago I have tried to go back but hate the reaction. Not just that I feel I can get it off my hand easier.
