Since we are on our Christmas and New Years break I decided to change the grips on my ball. I took out the old middle finger grip and cleaned out the hole. I happened to notice that there was an opening at the bottom of the finger holes, the bridge between the finger holes had lost a piece of material. The hole is about the size of a dime. So will this pose a problem in the future even though the hole is at the bottom of the fingers and what should I do to remedy it.

Is the hole in the bridge between the fingers? Or, is it just a hole in the bottom of the finger hole?

If it is in the bridge, allowing you to see from one finger hole to the other, it needs to be repaired. If this is it, the lack of support for the bridge could let it crack completely out. If this is it, you can fix it pretty easily by just cleaning out all the loose debris, plugging the fingers and redrilling them in the same spot. If the bridge hasn't already cracked, they may be able to fix it well enough that when you put your grips back in that you can't even see the fix.

The hole is due to the lateral pitches that were used when the ball was drilled. It can cause the bridge to crack as them coming together weakens the bridge area. The only way to correct this would require the pro shop to surface plug the holes and then go back in with the correct pitches. The worst case scenario would be the bridge breaks out and then the fingers would need to be completely plugged to correct

I don't know if I explained the problem correctly when I talked about the bridge but there is no visible crack or hole at the surface, the hole is between the fingers at the bottom of the finger holes. If the hole dosen't get any bigger will I be ok without a fix?

When your ball was drilled, the pitches that were used caused the holes to be drilled into each other at the bottom...

Wild guess, 3/8 palm on MF and maybe 1/4 away from palm on rf...

If the bridge at the top is too close, say less then 1/4", then there is a good chance that the holes will meet at the bottom...

Many pro shops use standard pitches like those because it make it easier to install inserts flush.... And sometimes the holes will meet at the bottom...

Just have them filled and re-drilled. Shouldn't cost that much. If you can take your ball to the shop that originally drilled it, they may do it for free (since they're the ones who screwed up the lateral pitches in the first place).

hear me out.. just say you did not change your grips, you would still be bowling and you wouldn't know about the little hole inside your bowling ball.. "jls" is correct in his statement, it sometimes happens when drilling the fingers.. I would put new grips in the ball, do not use a ton of superglue(it causes cracking)just a dot or two to hold the grip and go bowling.. bowl with it until it cracks because it may never crack.. you don't know until it does or doesn't.. it will not do anything to the roll of the ball or how it hits.. use it till it breaks then get it fixed.. slashrr69

BObowler, like slashrr69 said there is no need to worry about repairing the finger holes until they blow out. I have had the same thing happen to me in the past and I waited until the bridge blew out, then plugged both finger holes and re-drilled fingers with more lateral pitch. I dont know what laterals your driller is using but if you stay with a combination that will give you a total of 3/4" you should be good to go like 3/8-3/8 or 1/2-1/4 whatever fits your needs.

I also always use a 5/16" bridge, never a 1/4"

Thanks for all the replies guys, my only concern was if it was a problem that needed to be fix right away but sounds like a situation that does happen to others. If and when then bridge does go out completely I will get it fixed. Thanks
