Title: Turbo Switch Grip
Post by: abcarr on April 02, 2016, 02:42:57 PM
I've never used these before but I just bought a used ball that has the Turbo Switch Grip in the thumb.  Took it to the pro shop to have it redrilled and desided to stay with the switch grip in the thumb and have the finger holes plugged and redrilled.  So how much difference is there going to be, feel wise, in the switch grip and conventional thumb slugs?

Thanks!!

No...  It's going to have a switch grip inner sleeve installed.  But compared to my other balls that have thumb slugs, how different will the switch grip feel, if any?

Switch grips are thumb slugs. They use slugs to glue into the inner sleeve of the switch grip. So it's the same feel as a slug.

Okay...  I get what both of you are saying now.  Since I've never seen one of these before I wasn't following what you were saying.  So if I'm understanding it correctly, there's the outer sleeve that is glued into the ball.  (Which is already there.)  Then the inner sleeve which locks into the outer sleeve and is removable.  But there's a regular thumb slug glued into the inner sleeve, then drilled.

Thanks!!

Since this was a used ball did you ask your PSO to see if there is thumb pitches for the outer sleeve installed in the ball that may not be right for you. If the thumb pitches for the outer sleeve are zero, then you can have your thumb pitches (if required) drilled into the inter sleeve if you have a small enough thumb.

If the female is drilled 0/0 then he can drill your pitches into the male. If not, he should be able to drill the male to accommodate the needed pitches. Switch grip makes a 1 1/4 and 1 3/8 male slug. So unless your thumb is huge, he should have no problems.

I do have a slight reverse pitch on my thumb.  The PSO checked the ball and said that it looked like the outer sleeve was pretty much straight (would be able to tell for sure after he took some measurements) so getting the right pitch shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks again!!

You are correct. It's just like having a slug in your ball

Make sure that you know what the pitch of the outer is as that will be VERY important when drilling balls in the future (If you want you thumb pitches correct).
