hadicap change this year
« on: December 04, 2011, 05:31:45 AM »
our leauge went from 90% handicap to 150 pins max....my team is the reason because we came from awood house to synthtic house last year they were giving us alot of pins....they acused of being sand baggers which we are not... hmmmm seems like our team upset the apple cart....alot of guys have just below 200 averages but when we bowl them they have no problem bowling 220 plus every game....hmmmm aint that calling the kettle black....think next year me and my boy going to run for president and vice-president of the leauge and change it to 80%...and have everybodys averages rerated if we can do that.....

Since when do league officers set the rules?  This should be decided by the members.  That said, it depends on the make-up of the league.  If there is a big difference in averages, a "cap" seems fairer. Also, some teams are in the wrong league in the first place and a "cap" would force them to reconsider another league.  Being an "old timer" I always prefered scratch bowling leagues because I worked to get my average where it was and didn't want to have someone be my equal by using a pencil.   The old ABC once suggested a 100% handicap!  How fair is that?

A cap on handicap is never fair, it strongly favors the high average teams.  --  JohnP

A cap on handicap is perfectly fine, it is one way to discourage sand bagging,
also if you have a league that is a little more serious it may help to even out teams and
keep some of riff raff out of the league.

I think some of the amounts of handicap given in a league with 100% Handicap are
a little out of hand.

Most leagues set the rules before the start of league play, I presume that is the case here. So you knew the rules coming into the league.

So how would they assume you would be sandbagging?

Didn't you establish new averages in the league the first week? If so then surface shouldn't be an issue.

It will take a majority of the league to change rules and anyone can make motions to make rule changes not just league officers.
