Im just curious..
How many of you point your feet in the direction you want to throw the ball? Does it work for you?

When I'm pulling the ball I point my feet toward the right> Over the course of several shots it gets me back to where I want to be.
-
My 2 pennies here but I have read and been told the proper finish position for your foot (assuming righty) should actually turn inward for additional stability and leverage.
I believe Tom Kouros in a recent BJI referenced how difficult it is to convince a "230" average player that he is doing something incorrectly.
My advice, as always, find qualified instruction be it with a coach or all of the books and magazines you can read. Just because someone averages 230 doesn't mean he knows how to bowl.
Nuff said!

I was always told your foot should go outward on your realease for more leverage and "crap".

I tilt my feet on the approach towards my target on the lane.
That way my swing is always in a straight line - theoretically, anyway.
Doesn't take much...

I don't think the slide foot is as important as the shoulders and hips in what direction they are pointing. My feet naturally point a little outward when standing perfectly balanced. Therefore, I believe my slide foot should naturally point a little outward when sliding so that I can maintain that same good balance.

I turn my heels a board or two to the left or right for spare shots, specifically corner pins. Otherwise my feet stay straight.

I agree..
quote:
I'm a righty and I point my left foot in the direction I want to walk, and my right foot in the direction of the intended ball path.
As far as direction of slide foot at the release point, my heel is turned inward for balance. You can try this right where you are at. Stand in your release position with knee bent and turn your heel in, out and straight ahead. I think you will find that you have far better balnce with your heel turned in.

I believe that it is proper technique to point your feet in the direction you want to throw the ball, in your stance. That is not to say that you will walk toward the foul line that way.
In the "Dexter Approach" section of last year's Masters, the subject of the spot was Jason Williams. Randy pointed (no pun intended) out that he, like many other tour players, opens his foot on his first step. This keeps his shoulders open, and allows him to feed the ball underneath his shoulder, out to his breakpoint.
His general motion is still in the direction that he wants the ball to travel.

I turn my slide foot sideways, reason being I have mild cerebral palsy in my right side and my leg will not keep my foot straight. I've learned, through my disability, that there is no right way to bowl. Do what works for you, more important than technique itself is practice. If you can consistently do the same thing the good points of your game will shine through the bad.
