Twister pins - legal?
« on: December 05, 2008, 12:33:50 AM »
Ok, here's the deal.  My center put Twisters in about 3 months ago.  At first they were nearly impossible - I've seen 10 pins slide into the 7 pin spot.  To solve the "problem" of pins sliding and not falling they put small pads of some sort, under each pin.  Now they fall pretty normally (except the cursed 9 pin, of which I leave about 12 every 3 games).  I'm wondering about that pad.  Is it legal?  I suppose it must be, or they wouldn't be sanctioned, but it seems odd to me.  (WARNING - APPROACHING FIGJAM) BTW, I am averaging 222 on these pins, even with all the 9 pins I'm shooting, so I guess I can't complain too much.

I am not sure about what type of pad they put under it but, I cant think it would be legal.  Twisters are a pain and if you are only leaving 9 pins consider it good mostly you see a lot of 4 9 leaves.

Rags, you got hit them twisters light.  Flush is an 8, 9, 4-9 or something else.

As for the pad, never heard of it....

I do try, trust me.  But on this pattern every ball I've seen wants to jump on the back end.  It's difficult to keep the ball from hitting full pocket, with a lot of angle.

this is also my first year with twister pins... you HAVE to hit the pocket light... never left so many 9 pins in my life. the only people who strike flush are playing tight lines/angles.

I hate those pins! I dont care if they last longer, thats the centers problem! sure I feel bad for the center and they do need to try and save money but these things are a nightmare to the average bowler.

I have seen their video (DVD layed around in my local pro shop^^) and I was shocked but the pin seems to be a german invention (and I am from Germany^^) "Optimer Polymer-Technik GmbH"

You have to watch their promotion video.^^ Pretty funny

why do you have to hit them light.. what is the difference.. does the ball deflect less off the pins??

They carry(or don't) funny on flush hits.  I've only had a few sets with them and everybody on the pair agreed that light hits carried much better.  I've seen them in different house and different patterns, light hits just carry better....

Twisters are full synthetic....no maple under the Surlyn cover.  http://www.bowling-pin.com/content/welcome.htm

They've been used at USBC and past ABC Natl's.....noted by many to carry better with lights hits.  Can leave wacky designer spares.

Good rollin' rags!
