« on: September 02, 2004, 06:23:47 AM »
Hey guys im not sure if this has been posted before but what is the best way to clean a particle ball. Is alcohol good to use, I hear acetones are bad for them but what is the best stuff to use when cleaning them.

Neotac has a new cleaner out called Khamelion.  Haven't used it myself but have heard good things about it.

Other than that I would clean it the way you do regular resin balls.  Particles seem to need a lite resurfacing often to retain their reaction.

what I do, I get the ball deoiled then get it dulled / lightly resurfaced, restores quite a bit of reaction.

lilphyzx, don't listen to Not done. He doesn't know what he is talking about. Use common sense. Excessively heavy polishing of a ball ( like Black Magic ) will make a ball skid/hydroplane, etc. but no cleaner on the market regardless of brand will makethe ball hydroplane.

I think that the full name of the Neotac product is "Khameleon Particle Sand High Tech Ball Restorer."  It is a great product.  It's the only thing that effectively cleans my Granite Gargoyle , and it does so easily.  It does have grit in it and leaves about a 1500 grit surface, so bear that in mind if you plan to use it.

it will cause it to hydroplane if all you do is just put the cleaner on it. its a particle ball, it has holes, when the holes fill up, the wont grip the lane. The fluids in the ball don't level off with the ball, they form a miniscus/ convexing arc over each hole in the ball. Think about it... just get as much of the oil out of the ball as possible, lightyly resurface it then add a coat or 2 of docs magic elixer.

Not done, I realize you are only 16 years old and learning about bowling balls and so forth, but I've been around a few years myself. Although there are a lot of things I don't know about bowling balls, there are a lot of things that I do know about bowling balls and knowing about ball cleaners is one of them. No ball cleaner that I know of will make a ball hydroplane, especially Liquid Nitro. I know as I have been using it on all of my balls including particle balls, for the last 15 months or so. I don't know who has put this silly idea in your head. The Doc's Elixir will make a ball skid further before it hooks and at times over-run the break point, but not Liquid Nitro. Black Magic Polish put on heavy will make a ball overrun the breakpoint and not hook at all if too heavy. I know, "been there-done that."

Neo Tac's Hook-It will deep clean the ball and get all oil, dirt, grime, etc out of the pores. The Liquid Nitro used after every bowling session will help keep these pores from filling back up and extend the live of the ball between deep cleanings with Hook It. I know as I've also used the Hook It for over 15 months and again, "been there-done that."

I don't know... I guess im gonna have to take your word for it, but what I should have stated more clearly is if your ball hasn't been cleaned in a while, then you clean it, then put it away for a while... etc... the ball will still hydroplane if you haven't cleaned it properly... I apologize for my obvious lack of clarity.
