Two-handed bowling
« on: October 24, 2008, 06:36:43 AM »
I wonder what you think of two-handed bowling. Jason Belmonte just finished first in the qualifications for the World Championship this week. His average 233.93 is way over anybody. Norm Duke, whom I consider as the greatest bowler at this time averaged only... 225.04. Do you think that two-handed bowling is easier? Are there any two-handed bowlers in your centers? How do they fare? Do you think that youngsters who are considering bowling as a career should go two-handed?

I bowled 2 handed exclusively until I turned around 16.. But I always threw 1 handed at spares that were on the right side of the lane since i'm a righty..

I just use a spare ball and throw it harder but still with both hands on it.

Those of you who have seen me bowl hence the name know.  My biggest problem is angle i can get the ball to the pins at about 15 to 17 depending on condition but i always have to much midlane.  From the rediculous amount of angle you start leaving weird things.

My son is a two hander at nearly 5 years old.  I haven't decide whether or not to keep him going that direction.  There aren't many two hander instructors out there and I'm not 100% positive of the mechanics of it.  I can teach the "traditional" method fairly well, but not the two handed method.  I'm learning from my son as we go.

My proshop friend thinks it will only cause kids to screw around more.  I think this is somewhat true.

My son was going great guns at 6 averaging over 110 and keeping up with the 10 year olds until his 160 average instructor MADE him switch back to 1 handed!!  Or else!REgards,

I note that JD74 is trying to tell everyone how hard it is.

Sort of like Floridians telling others that we hate the weather and have lots of hurricanes.

I don't know anyone who thought it was hard except 220 and up bowlers who thought they would be better right away.

I'm older and not as coordinated as many I ssee on videos on here and I've never seen anyone have any trouble who tried it!  Of course I like to bowl with better bowlers and athletes if I can!

The big money makers I have seen use 1 handed right hand corner spares too!

i bowl with a guy that bowls some times 2 handed depending on the lanes but he's been doing it for close to 15 years and his back is a wreck after league he's had several bad problems with his back that the only thing i see wrong with 2 handed is the way you twist and throw it it takes a little bit more of a beating then one haned that and it's too easy to bend the rules of 2 handed bowling with out anyone noticing

I've seen and bowled against a BUNCH of 2 handers, and it can be just as much of a benefit as a hindrance.

I have a high rev rate and speed as it is, so I don't need to go two handed to get the same effect. I've got the 1 handed game down pat. I can only say what I've been told so many times, both verbally and shown.

2 handed bowlers TEND TO BE (Not ARE, but TEND TO BE.) less accurate than one handed bowlers. They get more area, but then the lanes fry and they're in trouble a lot of the time. It all takes skill and it's all a different type of game. The game is evolving, and I have no problem with the 2 handed bowlers.

I don't foresee myself ever being one, but I don't think it gives a significant advantage any more than anything else does. I personally think that a rich person who can afford to buy a new ball every other week has the biggest advantage of all. I don't worry about it. There are advantages and disadvantages to everything, and there is no defense in bowling. 2 handed works great on a house shot for league, but get on a sport shot or on a broken down shot and they'll struggle too.

I hope 1 handed bowling doesn't become "obsolete" as some may say, but we'll see.

I think like throwing two fingered their will be a group of people that do it and a group that throws using one hand. Like any style of bowling it has advantages and disadvantages it is how the individual bowler balances them that makes the most difference.

My thoughts exactly...it is the top hat killer.

At my age I believe I could easily do it!  Later...not so sure.

Would love to have those revs on a top hat.

Everyone I see doing it adds at least...200 of em!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS on the tougher conditions....it is not so much!  So if you are going to love top hat bowling and super high scoring from the area created...do it!  If tough conditions are ahead you might want to think a little before proceeding!

Well, Norm showed this week that revs isn't always what wins.  Barnes tried playing close to his line but his revs for that line were too much.

2 handed bowling will take a lot of practice.  That ball will take off & you probably have to be a lot more accurate.  But, the more Jason Belmonte gets seen, the more you'll see it pop up.  There is one in our league.  Last year we had 2, & a bunch of no thumbers.  Not so many this year.

If your good enough at it and accurate with it the sport shots arent that hard either, I can still keep the other hand on it and have a very low rev rate by coming up the back of the ball and throwing it hard it may move 2-3 boards and thats with a high performance ball so on Cheetah or Something I do that so I can play the track area and score, Shark I can slow it down and belt into it, Scorpion and Viper are just hard house shots basically so there very scorable, big thing is spare shooting and knowing how to use your spare ball.
