Two hander ball recommendations
« on: June 14, 2019, 08:35:46 AM »
Okay would love some ball recommendations. Not been bowling two handed for long, but wanted to purchase one or two balls to get started with. Gonna have to order online and have them drill them because there’s no pro shop near where I live. (I’m in the UK)

Was considering getting a Deep Freeze 🤔

Thanks.

As a two hander with 25 years experience and currently own a Deep Freeze; this is one of my favorite balls.  I have been able to use it on both league and tournament conditions with huge success simply because of its control.  For a polished pearl; it still doesnt have that flippy reaction downlane.  I think it would be the perfect ball to start with honestly.  Then get something one step up from that.

If you cant get a Deep Freeze, then the new Messenger is the ticket also because of its lower diff number.  My suggestion is to go with balls with lower diff numbers to start to help with control until you get your ball speed and accuracy consistent.  Then build from there.  There are also balls on the market with stronger covers to handle more oil and yet have low differentials like the Hammer Web Tour.

Thanks very much for the advice and recommendations Steven. Luckily I can get hold of a 14lb Deep Freeze here in the UK so might go ahead and get that for now.

Was wondering if you had any recommendations about drilling the ball? Im gonna have to get the online store to drill it. I see Belmo has a lot of reverse pitch in his fingers. 1" I think. Any reason not to follow suite and go with that much reverse?

You’re not that far from Bromborough Bowl and Stuart Yapp is the driller there. He’s a very good driller and a very knowledgable nice guy as well.

Maybe worth your time giving him a ring.

Thanks for the recommendation. Actually I've already spoken to Stuart because I just started bowling at Bromborough. I honestly feel a bit bad buying a ball online then getting him to drill it. Not sure if Im being a bit silly thinking like that though  :)

It’s horses for courses but I think having a good driller that is knowledgable and reliable far out weighs the small savings you make buying on line.

I could have purchased balls online and saved £10 here and there but over the years I’ve benefited more from making a good friend out of my driller.

Ask him the price, you never know he may be able to match it. I bowled with his son for a few years and have met him several times and he’s always been very helpful to me.

Since the ball is not dynamic; I would just do the pin above your bridge and the cg under the fingers.  Mine is drilled similar.  Only difference is I have a small weight hole down to give the ball a little help on the backend.

Yes you may be right. Will speak to him the next time I see him and see if he can help. I did ask him about drilling for no thumb two hander but he did not really seem very knowledgeable. I'll give it another go  ;)
