Why do I see this everywhere I go? I see all kinds of people with costly arsenals yet their game stinks. I don't understand this reasoning at all. Why do people spend the money on all these bowling balls when they have no game themselves? Just the other night I saw a guy with the whole x-factor line up and a few traumas, he had a few reloadeds drilled differently. He brought a total of 8 balls and a whopping 161 average to league. Brought a 6 ball roller and 2 ball tote. Had 2 pairs of shoes, dexter sst6 and ABS. Wore a big ole Storm Robo Brace. Yet he only averages a measely 161 and has only been bowling for half a year. Nice.

pchee2<~~~stroking the ball with MANLY revs and spraying the lanes for an average of a buck 62. This guy is full of STUFF!
-
I know what you mean exactly!!! Or when someone buys several different balls and has them drilled to do the same crap, or they by the biggest hooking ball and wonder why they cant keep in on the lane!
I seen someone last yr buy a X-Factor and all he did was throw the ball up 2nd arrow like he did with his other ball.
Or the best is when people buy new stuff and it doesnt carry or they leave corner pins with the ball or it doesnt give them the brand new ball 300 special they was suppose to get with it. They just say this BALL SUCKS

He-he-he....But seriously, I can see the guy using the brace but all those balls? One or two balls is all that guy needs. Why do people buy condition specific balls? Personally, I like a strong resin and am thinking about one for toasted-dry lanes. Thats it. That pretty much covers all conditions I may bowl on. The notion that I need a ball for every known condition is blasphemous! Is this trend the result of some capitalist marketing ploy? Can someone be a good bowler with only one or two balls......?

I see this all the time too. Why don't they spend some of the $ on some decent coaching? Therefore they won't need to waste the $ buying every new ball in hopes that one of them will be the magic ball for their crappy style. Unless you know what you're doing, having too many ball choices will only lead to confusion, but it's making some pro shop operator some cash.

what if he's doing it just to have fun?
WHat if it's his brand of fun?
I know two guys who do the same thing. One brings 6 balls to every house league and he's lucky to average 160. Another buys EVERY super-oiler and oiler made, drills them all stacked leverage and brings 8 of them to every league he's in.

Peach,
I thought this was going to be our little secret.
Justin,
Whether or not it is true, it doesn't seem like good business to publicly insult your customers, at least not if you want to keep that $4000/year coming into your register.

Yeah, 8-100 balls to bowl league is a bit of overkill. Kinda like the guy who drives a Humvee to the office. WTF are you going to encounter on todays roads that you'll need that kind of vehicle to get through? But in the end, who really cares? It's their money, let them spend it how they wish.

I think he was being sarcastic. Bones has often, on these boards, questioned the need for arsenals at the league level.

I suppose I'm at the opposite end. I'm actually embarrassed to bring my 2 balls plus a spare ball, because I'm not in the "elite" class. One night, I did have 3 balls with me, and while I was getting a ball out of my bag, one guy said "you sure have a lot of equipment!" I don't ever want to be fodder for the topic in this thread.

Justin,
I was referring to use of the word "ignorant" with respect to people who drill a lot of balls. Perhaps this one gentleman, if he happens to read this board, will know that you weren't referring to him.

Debs, I wouldn't be self concious about taking 3 balls anywhere. It's not bad to have a dry/spare ball, a medium ball, and one for heavy oil. I think where people start getting rediculed is for bringing in a truckload. 6 ball rollers are occasional at most leagues I'm at, and I think anything over that for league is what really stirs the pot. Personally, in 2 of my leagues, I just take 2 because the shot never changes. My third league has a better pattern, and multiple lines can be more easily played (more even reactions, and more oil, and not so much over/under) so I take 4 to that league - but mostly wind up using 2 of those, sometimes 3.

9AndaWiggle,
My most competitive league is a mixed league, and I think I'm in the minority of people who bring more than two balls. I really should be bringing four, because I never know how heavy/light the oil's going to be. My driller (of course) agrees I need four for one of my leagues.
There's a guy in my adult/junior league who brings a full arsenal, but he's heavily involved in the pro shop and averages in the 220s. He knows his equipment very well.
Thanks for the reassurance.

whats fun is watching the guys who bring in those bowling balls struggle. They rarely if ever change lines, speed, hand position, break point. Instead they just keep switching balls hoping for a magical one to appear to carry. If it doesn't work, time to drill up a new one.
I know two guys who bring between 12-16 bowling balls to league, and they average 200-210 on a league shot, but on anything tough cant average 150 because they simply wont move. One of em tried to play a sport shot 15 out to 5 and was whining because it wouldn't stop skidding into the gutter.

It's not the number balls in the bag, it's the number of revs on the ball. All beginners must first bowl with plastic or at least mild resin balls before ever being allowed to purchase particle balls. After the student learns how to hook the lane like a real man, then he can purchase whatever cool ball he wants to. Of course, balls are purchased based on the image they create and how many CPL's they add.

Peachnis, have you been watching me?
